Re: Do you believe Horoscopes? [Re: teen]

I opened a fortune cookie the other night and it said "You Bless Others With Your Good Humor"

pfff stupid fortunes..

Horoscopes are pretty lame in my opinion too - I don't know how people could believe such ungrounded claims. Is there any real science behind this at all besides simple astronomy?

Rising Sign is in 09 Degrees Scorpio
You tend to be quiet, reserved, secretive and, at times, quite difficult to understand. Others notice your deep emotions and feelings and wonder how to draw you out. Stubborn and tough, you fight for any position you believe in. You are very resourceful and formidable when you become angered or upset about something. You enjoy living life at the cutting edge -- for you life must be experienced intensely and totally. Quite courageous, you are willing to take calculated risks. Easily hurt by others, you often strike back with bitter sarcasm *. Sensitive and curious, you are concerned with the deeper mysteries of human psychology. Once you have become interested in any subject, you pursue it with total fanaticism.

Sun is in 22 Degrees Capricorn.
Extremely serious and mature, you are capable of accepting responsibilities and do so willingly. Others expect you to be dutiful as a matter of course. You tend to get angry when people get rewards after not having worked anywhere near as hard as you. * You are goal-oriented and an achiever by nature -- you're a hard worker and are justifiably proud of the tangible results of your efforts. You tend to have "tunnel-vision" -- this allows you to block out extraneous matters that might distract others and to concentrate totally on the matter at hand. As such, you are the ideal one to manage or administrate any ongoing project and to be practical and efficient at it. You are not a fast worker, but you are quite thorough. You are known for being totally persistent, tenacious and tireless in reaching your goals.

Moon is in 15 Degrees Sagittarius.
An idealist, you prefer the grand, the beautiful, the good and the noble. You get very disappointed when your high expectations in life are not met. Very curious by nature, you enjoy traveling and learning about other peoples and cultures. Try to avoid your tendency to ignore the small but important details of living. You are independent and free, and you want others to be that way, too. Optimistic, buoyant and cheerful, others like to have you around. You have an incessant desire to learn as much as possible about metaphysics, religion, philosophy and any other broad, deep subject. Your life tends to be punctuated by bursts of energy and frenetic activity.

Mercury is in 02 Degrees Capricorn.
You are a careful thinker, very cautious and conservative. You are quite skillful at organizing, directing and planning activities. Practical and useful things interest you -- you are not attracted to abstract thoughts or ideas. * With your tendency to be highly focused and very goal-oriented, you have a good head for business. * But beware of a tendency to be narrow-minded and dogmatic. Your sense of humor tends toward being earthy and slapstick crude.

Venus is in 25 Degrees Aquarius.
You are a friendly and outgoing individual, but close relationships are difficult for you to maintain due to your fear that they will cause you to lose your freedom. You attract friends and associates who are exciting, different and sometimes a bit odd. You are popular with others and enjoy working within a group toward group goals.

Mars is in 11 Degrees Aries.
You are very independent and self-assertive, and you have lots of physical energy. You are not satisfied unless you can be the first to do something. As such, you are more comfortable in leadership positions than you are as an underling. When you are challenged by anyone for anything, you delight in the competitive process and will fight long and hard for your beliefs. You are bold and courageous and often act without thinking. * At times, in your zeal to get ahead, you are tactless and offensive * -- learn that cooperation with others can often bring you nearer to your goals quicker because of the support you will get.

Jupiter is in 25 Degrees Sagittarius.
You have a very strong sense of ethics and morality. You are widely read and may also be widely traveled because you are sincerely interested in expanding your knowledge of the world about you. At times, you have an annoying tendency to be self-righteous and preachy about your belief system. You are usually quite idealistic and you demand the right to be able to explore the entire world of experiences yourself. Remember to grant others the similar right -- be tolerant, not dogmatic.

Saturn is in 29 Degrees Taurus.
Complete freedom of choice makes you ill at ease. * You must have a firm, ordered, secure foundation in your life in order to feel comfortable. You do not adapt easily and tend to fear the new and untried. * You constantly fear that you do not have enough *(love, property, material things, etc.) and this makes you tend toward being selfish, withdrawn and stingy. If you try to surround yourself with supportive people in your environment, you will become more emotionally self-supporting.

Uranus is in 18 Degrees Libra.
You, as well as your entire peer group, have a very free, unstable and unconventional approach to relationships and emotional commitments. You will be attracted to experiments in marriage and shared lifestyles. * Personal freedom is more important to you than entangling emotional bonds. In the realm of art and aesthetics, you are attracted to the bizarre, shocking and unusual.

Neptune is in 04 Degrees Sagittarius.
You, and your entire generation, are heavily involved in investigating and idealizing foreign and exotic intellectual systems and religious philosophies. The most extreme ideals will be pursued with gusto. You will be at the forefront of humanitarian attempts to improve the lot of those who are in need of assistance. You will be comfortable with the concept of the "global village."

Pluto is in 02 Degrees Libra.
For your entire generation, this is a time of radical changes in society's attitude toward marriage and interpersonal relationships. There is a general fear and awe at the power inherent in making emotional or contractual commitments -- they will not be entered into lightly.

N. Node is in 05 Degrees Aquarius.
As long as someone else (or a group or organization) appeals to your intellectual sensibilities, you'll try to ally yourself with them in some way. You may find that you always seem to get involved with many wide-ranging groups -- so much so that you find it difficult to fit them all into your busy schedule. Your many friends and acquaintances provide you with needed stimulation. You're loyal and fair-minded -- you try to spend time equally with all your friends, never concentrating on just one or two for any length of time. Although probably quite conservative yourself, you're attracted to those who are a bit offbeat or eccentric -- you enjoy watching their minds work.

Ok, the above was from the site Marcos posted. I put in the exact time, date, and lat & long for the hospital in which I was born. Anything that is in italics with a bold * after it is something that I disagree with. For those that know me, based on my posts, what do you think? Yeah or nay? Pretty much everything that I didn't mark is fairly accurate... except the group stuff... I tend to be a loner/hermit type with only one or two close friends, etc.

Exactly. The generalized horoscopes you get in your email box once a day from astrology.com are phonies, but if you get your horoscope done down to your minute they are accurate. Astrology is very very ancient and goes way back. Your sign is read according to the different houses, and which planets are located where when you are born. The month horoscopes are only based on your sun sign, which doesn't encompass all the planets like it should. For example they say for women their moon sign is more important anyway. It isn't some new age mystical bullshit that many people think it is. If you go to a professional astrologer (get recommendations) theres no doubt you'll be impressed.

I've had my whole chart done professionally (along with the rest of my family) and it is still my opinion that its all BS.

I went to that chart website that Markos posted, and some of the descriptions of me didn't seem to fit, and some even seem to contradict each other.

...but if you get your horoscope done down to your minute they are accurate.
As per usual I will wager a very large sum of money against this.

Astrology is very very ancient and goes way back. Your sign is read according to the different houses, and which planets are located where when you are born.
And the readings are based on WHAT? So your sun is in X and your moon is in Y. Even assuming there were some connection, how can anyone tell what it means? There is no ancient database.

It isn't some new age mystical bullshit that many people think it is.
More like some ancient mystical bullshit.

If you go to a professional astrologer (get recommendations)
Professional means that someone charges money. As astrology cannot be demonstrated nor is there a licensing board, no one has anyway of knowing anything about the astrologer; merely the gullibility of a previous client.

theres no doubt you'll be impressed.
There is enormous doubt that I will be impressed which is why I would wager heavily against it.

Im sorry i dident read the whole thread so someone may have already said this!!!

Does anyone know why the 3 planets the ancients dident know about wouldent have any significance like the ones they did know about had? Why isent pluto just as important as mars... I think that this fact supports the thoery that things have meaning if you give meaning to them, saying that pretty much, if you beleive and follow your horoscopes, your bound to find possative outcome in your life... but you could do the same with many other beliefs...

they only knew of 5 other planets.
Pluto btw is just a big chunk of ice, theres a thousands of other ice chunks, pluto was just discovered before they knew of how many there were

where did you get this information? Why wouldent a large chunk of ice not be considered a planet, even if there are many more like it? If its in the rotation with earth around the sun close enough to be known to scientists, then I would definatly classify it as a planet.

Its actually a very debatable topic amongst astronomers right now whether it should be considered a planet or not. I recommend reading up on it, theres some good sites that pop up from google search engine

I think the matter at hand is this: If some planets have an influence on us, then all of them do, as do all other parts of the universe.

I have used astrology and I-ching and I have NEVER seen it fail. Not even once.

If someone is trying to trick you by LYING about thier chart, or doing so bullshit swap with Jeffery Dalmers horoscope, then its not going to work. Case in point.

You meet a lovley lady on the internet, and you go out on a dinner date. Conversation is livly and you have alot in common. At the end of the night you kiss and there is sparks. You dont see her for a week, then she calls with a confession that she is in fact a man. What does that mean about your feelings towards that man when you thought she was a woman. Its a mind fuck. Becuase you BELIVED her to be true. SAME WITH THE COLLEGE KIDS< THEY BELIEVED THEY HAD THEIER OWN HOROSCOPES SO OF COURSE THEY ARE GOING TO IDENTIFY WITH THEM. JUST LIKE YOU WOULD KISS A GUY IF YOU BELIVED HE WAS A WOMAN.

Thats the same as lying about horoscopes. 20/20 would have done better if they had just done them honestly. And I find it hard to belive nobody was into astrology in that entire class, becuase if someone gave me Jeffery Dalmers chart I would know it was wrong even in High School.

Exactly. With so much energy everywhere flowing about, I don't see how any sort of predictions could be made from this. Its more symbolism than anything... maybe it ties in with the ideas of archetypes, in a way.... not sure. hehe.
Peace.

Uh oh, I hear a bullshit siren going off. You're assuming I went into it with disbelief. The fact is that I went into it fully expecting to find a good description of myself. I even have a slight belief that there might be something to astrology. However, I was quite disappointed with the inaccurate results.

I myself am a Cancer rising Cancer....
I like to believe in the HOROscopes,
I do notice that every astrology site says something different.
I have a book, lots of them, but this one is "The Secret Language of Birthdays", I find it to be quite accurate, with my B-Day anyway.
Anyone ever checked that book out?
