Solitary stalked polypore found on the roots of a fallen oak tree. Oxblood colored stalk transitioning to orange, then yellow and finally fringed in white. Underside completely white with hard line of oxblood/brown at stem. I'm guessing it is Pycnoporus-cinnabarinus but that is a wild guess.

G.tsugae has a relatively uniform white/ cream colored flesh, you can clearly see at the part of the stem where it was broken off that the flesh is tan with a dark brown center, this is typical in curtisii stems. If Nature Boy were to slice this mushroom open he would find that the flesh is transversed with little hard shiny resin streaks. Best seen if the cut is as smooth as possible. G.tsugae will never have this resin.
