Different or same race?

Hi, first time grower and have gained valuable advice from these forums in the last a few months, thank you! But I now have my first question that couldn't be answered by searching old posts - just wondering if the two mushrooms (GT) growing in the pic are the same race or did different spores get into the syringe? Thanks.

There is no way for anyone to reliably determine if either possibility is the case, because both are equally possible. Spores don't know what their names are anyway, you could just be getting different GT phenotypes. There could also be 10 different varieties in the same syringe. It's not likely though because from a cost standpoint that would be dumb for the seller.
Most likely, you're just seeing the effects of a normal multispore grow.

the spores of any variety cannot tell each other apart. they're all psilocybe cubensis spores. a strain is the result of two successful spores interacting and making dikaryotic mycelium. if you grew from spores you have 100s of strains working together as a single organism. all of the fruits you grow may be quite different and the potency will differ from fruit to fruit. to ensure consistently potent grows we clone and isolate strains on agar so that we can fruit only good strains. simply buying a syringe with a made up name doesn't really mean much unless you go for a mutant variety

Interesting, thank you. Still so new to this - so you would observe your grow and then clone whichever fruit looks the healthiest in order to achieve consistent potency? Would purchasing spores from a reliable reseller make a difference in consistent potency of your fruits?

There is no reliable reseller with spores that are magically more potent than anybody elses. Healthy=/=potent. A healthy fruit can be picture perfect and completely devoid of potency. You take several clones, then test them by growing them out and eating them.
