Going barefoot

I have really bad arthritic ankles from numerous injuries and i have some problems with balance, flexibility, pain/swelling.
My crummy ankles have been throwing off my gate and just recently i found something that really helps. Going barefoot to improve ankle/foot strength and stability!
Now i havent become some barefoot hippie or anything but ive been spending a lot of time lately walking, running, and stretching barefoot and its helped me immensley.
I'll go for long walks, preferably on grass and I'll stay barefoot throughout the day when i can. When i first started doing this, the muscles in my feet were really sore. After a month or so ive noticed a huge difference.
So wheres my barefoot brothers and sisters at?

It's considered Earthing and Grounding and has surprising health benefits.
Edit: and its not just hippies who cant afford shoes. It's your body connecting to the earth.

My wife's mother had gone barefoot most of her life, in her fifties now, her feet are truly horrendous looking. sure it's natural, but so is not shaving, as an evolved species, taking care of oneself is not so out of sync with nature as one might expect.

Modern rubber and plastic-soled shoes act as electrical insulators and therefore block the beneficial flow of electrons from the earth to your body.
Studies have shown that earthing or grounding improves blood viscosity, heart rate variability, inflammation, cortisol dynamics, sleep, autonomic nervous system (ANS) balance, and reduces effects of stress.
Earthing decreases the effect of these potentially disruptive electromagnetic fields.
A Body Voltage Meter can determine how much electricity is induced when lying in bed or sitting in a chair, and how much the electric charge is reduced by grounding

You dont have to walk on rocks and pavement for 50 years. Thats not the point HU. It's understanding the benefits of taking off your shoes and standing and walking on grass and dirt as often as you can, like in your own yard, a park or anywhere. Not walking down main street on the sidewalk for 40 years.
Edit: But you don't surprise me HU after reading your posts for the past 6 months to completely miss the point on many topics with your narrow minded views.

I disagree with you on this. Going barefoot encourages healthy gate and streangthens your ankles.
wearing shoes encourages heal striking and crams your toes into an unnatural shape

No dont go barefoot your arch supports will weaken, walk with sturdy shoes that are strong with support and your bones/muscles in your feet will strengthen, walking distances of 1 mile at a time help greatly, i have low arches and my feet get to hurting as well and this helps. doesnt have to be a trail could be the sidewalk around your neighborhood...good luck

You must be trollibg. I suppose using a wheel chair streangthens your leggs too.
you want thin shoes and propper form. I just ran two miles barefoot last week

I guess mine will be as well when I'm in my 50s then, since I'm a naturist, but once I've hit menopause I'll have no reason to give a fuck. For now they look fine (I'm 28). I wear shoes when I need protection from hostile terrain. I don't shave, I love my hairy armpits and legs. It's not enough to make me look like a dude, my androgen levels are normal, it's the massive amount of estradiol coursing through my veins that gives me my unquenchable libido.

I wear quality handmade leather African sandals made in the slum of Nairobi, Kenya at every possible occasion.
Right now I'm wrapped in bandages and hate that so much, my feet long to be bare, and if possible, all day long.
Shoes are foot prisons.

Hecks yes I love to be barefoot. I've been barefoot most of my life when at home and sometimes going around places. I used to climb trees barefoot too but haven't in so long. I have filipeana feet where I pick things up with my toes too. I only wear shoes out in society or when it's rocky and painful. I love feeling the grass and soil under my feet. It's pretty much the only place where I don't get my skin allergies from grass and weeds.

Fair enough about sandals rather than shoes, I guess I don't wear shoes often enough or for long enough at a time to complain, but I would definitely wear sandals if I worked for a living instead of scrounging off the government. Fuck Kenya though, they were probably made by genitally mutilated females.
Why are you wrapped in bandages?

They're training people from the Nairobi ghetto to professionally make sandals for a living and with it, help them escape abysmal poverty. Its a good karma place.
The bandages, I have a bunch of leg ulcers, mostly due to the interaction of my heart medications and the hot weather.

I have been running barefoot for years. Its awesome. I run along the shoreline at lowtide where the sand is compact and level
When its really cold or dark I wear those Vibram Fivefingers. I also use them in the gym and for boxing (people keep asking me about them)
I basically only wear shoes at work.

A few steps/stairs strengthens arches. Toddles learning to walk, should be encouraged to do a few steps a day to prevent flat feet.
Shoes are bullshit modern day 'necessity'.
