What is this yellowy stuff? Is it just metabolites or something I should worry about. I have another tray I spawned at the same time only it's cased and it's doing fine. This one however has been the same for 2+ weeks. I picked a load of aborts off after taking these pictures. thank you sincerely in advance for sharing yiur knowledge! This journey would be almost impossible without the support and education I get from my fellow shroomerites!!!! I love you all!

Your tub doesn't seem to have any holes are you just manually fanning looks like maybe a 6 qt tub? Your shrooms aren't getting the proper fae/ge the metabolites isn't good that means the shrooms are fighting off something else i would put that sub out of that and into a sgfc ifyou have one

Good eye noob47, I think that could be part of the issue as well as long as the spawn was clean and substrate pasteurized properly. What tek did you follow Floki?

OK that makes perfect sense.... yeah I fan manually. I have three of those trays in a SGFC. I also have a fan that blows indirectly on it for a half hour at 1,5,9 am and pm. So I should take the entire cake out and set it in the shotgun? I forget the exact two I put an inch of pasteurized verm down and than a coffee/gypsum/coir/verm mix with spawn at a 5:1 ratio. My one other MAZ tub is fruiting find but is giving 1-2 inch fruits. There have been 2-3 fruits a day that the veil has broken so I've been picking them. I read other people's posts about MAZ and they had similar growth with the non uniform like flushes. These are my first successful fruits. I became interested in mycology in may and have learned a great deal from trial and error and he shroomery. But any information will be well absorbed by me and I genuinely thank you guys for helping a noob start the amazing journey that is mushroom cultivation.

I definitely did proper pasteurization that was one of the lessons I learned the hard way. I did the coir in the oven at 165° for an hour. Thr verm was microwaved for ten and cooled.

Well fanning is not FAE so yeah you should do pretty much anything other than that, especially if you have a SGFC handy.

I do I do. OK thank you so I'll just take the cakes out of the 6qt. Tubs and place directly in the SGFC. I have wire mesh on top of my perlite should I just set them on top of that or should I put tinfoil or something underneath?

Wire racks help immensely with trays just make sure you have enough room in your SGFC so they have room to grow. I wouldn't use one past 25% of the tubs height. Keep up the good work and keep us posted.

^ Yeppers. Just don't rest them on your perlite, OP. There's gotta be some break between the tray and perlite to allow airflow and fulfill the basic principles of a SGFC.

Very nice. When I used to do trays, I'd stand them upright at 100% colonization and just let it fruit where it wanted. Having six sides of a tray exposed is trippy when they grow. But.. you don't get a casing layer.
That's old school kinda but I don't know if anyone still does it. Turns it into a huge cake so probably best left in the tray these days.
Good job on the MacGyver wire rack, haha.
You guys got this keep up the fine work.

I'd leave them in the trays these days if you guys are working with clean spawn. Anything past a second flush should be weak, not the same tray struggling to pop a few out. Please don't do what I suggested, it's pretty old hat.

SGFC can barely do its job with all the perlite's surface area covered up.

agreed. Put some metal lid jar bands under them above the perlite to increase the RH a bit

Yeah I definitely need to make another one.... or just a humongous one... and I do have metal jar bands on the perlite with a wire cage thing on top.
