Yoga people (and such)

I don't do yoga. I understand it's benefits though never got into it. Truth is I don't enjoy the topics and things they like to talk about. I often feel when at yoga studios there is allot going on and it kind of scrambles me. Like a sort of subconscious soft battle about how with it you are. Not all people who do yoga, but I don't feel that way when not around yoga people. Does anyone else feel strange at yoga studios or a sort of competition at those types of places?

How you feel mentally and working through it is part of the practice.

So when it comes to adverse feelings in your interactions, your go-to choices are Losing and Abstaining? The whole point of it is to be present through the sensations and emotions. As far as the people, even my favorite teachers spew the same silly jargon as people who really buy into it. Once you're actually practicing yoga, it doesn't matter if the teacher is speaking in tongues or if everyone else in class is meanmugging you; you're somewhere else and none of that can affect you.
Consider how ridiculous the average yoga practitioner is, then remember statistics tells us 50% of yoga practitioners are MORE ridiculous than that person. Maybe stick to easier, less engaging activities like blogging about your reactionary cynicism on the shroomery.

What you say does make seance and holds weight. Your insulting end jab almost counteracts your act at being insightful. I shared my experience, it's just 'my' experience.

Yoga classes should be a community. If you're not standing outside the classroom meeting new people, smiling uncontrollably and feeling a general lightness after your practice...don't come back to that place. People like to challenge themselves during their practice and that can come across as "showing off" but it isn't.
Tip: find a studio dedicated to yoga, not a gym. If it doesn't feel right, find a new studio or try a different teacher, different style. Make sure you are relaxed, arrive early and bring water, a small towel and go to the bathroom beforehand. Relax, find a small class and only glance at other people if you are unsure of what to do. You figure it out over time but everyone is there for themselves.
Perhaps you were at a shitty class or perhaps you are projecting onto people.

Yoga is one of the absolute best things a human being can do with their time. The benefits are vast and profound. If You don't like the vibe at one studio try another .
I love yoga . Without doing yoga you age way faster and worse, injure yourself way more often during exercise, feel less happy and content and relaxed.
It's an essential part of my fitness and training regimine. IMO it's best to alternate weight lifting or day yoga the next .
If you don't do yoga you are missing out hard. Whatever mental hang ups or excuses you have to stop you from starting the practice are silly nonsense.
Put them out of mind and get started.

you know what I absolutely hate about yoga (and this comes from someone who used to do yoga) is when some new age hippie clown tells me to stop taking my medication and just do yoga instead. like yeah this pose is going to cure my dissociative disorder and severe depression. eat shit hippie scum

The whole spirituality hippie mumbo jumbo bs behind yoga is gay imo. .
However there are plently of yoga poses and stretches i incorporate into my daily routine and they help me in many ways.. more than just physically.
I couldnt picture myself ever going to a yoga studio. Its a solitary activity imo.

I've been attached to several spiritual groups in the past and theyve all been filled with competitive egotistical snobbery. I've never been to a yoga studio but I can imagine it being similar. But even if it wasnt, I don;t understand the appeal of going to a yoga studio every week when you can just do the same thing at home for free in private. ...unless you're a guy and you want to watch a bunch of hotties in yoga pants get into all kinds of neat positions, that would be understandable, but I have a gf and I don't need that kind of thing in my life right now.

I have been to several yoga studios and never found anything but groups of people gathering to practice yoga together .
Yoga studios are silent , with no talking at all.
So whatever you guys are imagining goes on in terms of egotistical snobbery, unless you can read minds it won't bother you.
Regarding yoga and medications - yoga has been shown to greatly increase GABA levels in the brain, inducing a deeply relaxed calming feeling .
Daily yoga is certainly a better option for managing general anxiety than daily benzos .
Many people absolutely could treat their own depression more effectively with exercise and yoga then with SSRIs, if they had gotten into it before they became chemically dependent on the drugs, assuming they were disciplined and consistent .
Obviously it all depends on the individual case but no question many people jump right to addictive prescription drugs without even trying lifestyle changes .
Again, no universal statements . Some people can use yoga and meditation and exercise to effectively treat mental health issues without drugs , some won't be able to.
But because it's safe and Non addictive it's certainly worth a try whether you use medications or not.
If you take antidepressants or anxiety meds you don't necessarily need to stop but adding yoga On top will surely help.
