Pan cinct safety?
    #23577431 - 08/25/16 07:37 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

So I have picked and dried quite a few pan cincts. I have posted threads about it before... Now that they are all dried they look quite different and it just crosses my mind of what if I picked some wrong ones that were mixed in the bunch. I'm quite confident I picked correct and I spore printed most. But here and there a did pick some that grew after the main bunch.

So yea I'm quite sure I'm right but you know in the back of my mind there's the "what if" I had grabbed a bad one. So I have this great jar of boomers ready to go and at the same time am a bit worried for this reason.

The biggest question I have is if there was anything at all possible that would have looked extremely similar growing in the same area and that would be poisonous. Can you tell me what so I can look at pics and be sure I didn't see any?

Checking your previous identification requests for P. cinctulus, I can't see that you've got anything else.

Apart from other species of Panaeolus, there are few likely impostors. In any case there are no known
toxic species with black spore prints growing from manure.

But as a rule of thumb, you should always make sure what you've got when they're still fresh.
