First ever agar transfer.

Today was the first time I've ever transferred agar. I've got a picture here. This is a Ps. Cube, Vr. GT to be exact. I was looking for some insight on whether I chose a good place to make my cut.
This picture is in focus, what you see is how it looks. I avoided the fuzzy looking myc and went straight for the somewhat Rhizo looking stuff. Any advice is welcome

I did my first transfers last night too. It's a lot harder at first than it looks!
The only advice I can give is do a bunch if you can afford it to practice the motor skills you'll need. I did like 20 transfers last night just to practice but I probably won't even keep them.
Nice job!

Thank you I'm not doing a whole lot of transfers. I've got 2 dishes with Ps. Cyan spores (just made those) and I have the one I transferred this cut to. After I made the transfer I tossed what was in it to clear up space. I'm just trying to clean up my GT var. and I'm also trying to get this p. cyan var. going as well.

I definitely do. It's a mighty fine hobby and it goes hand in hand with my photography.

If you have trouble finding inoculation loops (mentioned in another thread), I jerry rigged some messenger wire off coaxial cable. Then I stripped the rest of it, and for others used grounding wire. They get very hot so try and fashion a handle. There's a set of 5 or 6 on Amazon and they suck, a kid could make better.

Oh. And I forgot. If you have agar plates, you can make some dummy ones without PCing and test your motor skills in your SAB. That way you'll have the general idea of how to go about it. Just don't let your hands get over your work, flame sterilize and don't wipe with alcohol, and try to be as mechanical and fluid as possible. Check out some of Munchauzen's videos. He's great at show and tell, lol.
