That's how they grow ... these 3 will go, then the other three, then those three, then the other three, . . . . . Even ribbed plants seem to do it that way. Odd ribbed ones do it similar, but aren't as uniform.

looks healthy but I would add a perlite or sand mixture into your grow medium, its getting alot of water and that may be over watering or a soil that retains the water to long, its not a bad thing but the cactus will grow taller and be able to ward off disease easier if its either fed less or given a more natural grow medium, they produce more mescaline that way as a defence mechanism as well as less watering down of the mescaline. The roots are more vulnerable to pests/disease when they stay wet to long also by spreading your watering out they reach deeper to find water which strengthens there foundation enabling them to support there height w/o toppling over in time. so water less or add in a natural sand/perlite mixture or both, the growth progress will amaze you and no water in winter, maybe mist it monthly on top unless your in the desert.

sometimes its just the soil around it settled and you can loosen it up but that may effect the roots so I would say less water , maybe not the amount but time between waterings, but it looks good and healthy.

no, like I stated it may be getting fed to often that will fatten them up to, but they thrive when you make them reach for water, they get tall quicker and stay lean then fatten up later

the soil is a mixture of course sand, standard potting soil and perlite. (i think somewhere around 3:1.5:1.5 respectively)
there is a tiny bit of garden mud in the top layer too perhaps, can't remember why but this mud drains terribly anyhow.
generally i think this soil should be a ok, it does rain a lot here...i wonder if any type of soil would in fact actuallly dry up ever.
i was thinking of adding ground cover (on this elevated plateau) to keep rain out and also perhaps suck some moisture out of the dirt...gotta do some more research into it.

I planted it in a raised bed. Trying to keep it dry in between watering so it will grow lateral roots, as advertised in papers.
I forgot to say about the soil mix it also consist of one part fertilizer.....well atleast twice of what was instructed
Earth worms were also introduced for added aeration B) i've read aeration is a big deal...also possible to simulate with h2o2
This is a dutch pc pedro i'm guessing, and was outplanted in the most favourable time of the year. The weather currently is actually better in terms of sunshine than in it's native habitat, this however is short lasted.

I am totally fascinated by you guys who can tell what is in a soil mix just by looking at it.
