Fruiting issues

Hey all. So I made this new bigger sgfc. All the holes are in the right place and there is 4-5" of perlite at the bottom. When I first put the cakes in, I had a space heater on which dried out the cakes and the few mushrooms that fruited. I have since redunked and rolled the cakes and nothing has really happened. I must and fan 3-4 times per day. Do you think I may have killed the cakes with the space heater. I live in s basement where it gets cold and the temp was 64 which is why I used the space heater. The reading is now 99% and the temp ranges from 63-68. I have more cakes colonizing so worst case I'll start over. Any advice?

Don't use the space heater, 63 is plenty warm. Did you re-soak the perlite? It may have gotten dry from the space heater as well. If you don't see any new growth in 3-4 days, I'd day it's probably time to toss them.

Oh this has been weeks now. Got some nice ones out of one strain but the latest dunk was 5-7 days ago.
Also, in the cakes I'm colonizing, the white isn't fully covering. Do you think there weren't enough spores in the syringes I purchased? Abt to print my own.

If its been weeks with no growth, they're probably done for.
If there's any white at all your syringe had plenty of spores. How long have they been colonizing? And are you controlling the temp around them at all?

Colonizing for 5 weeks in half pint wide mouth. The Vern is more of a fine grade. Dunno if that makes a diff. Temp has been 77-81

5 weeks is a long time, they might be contaminated. Is there anything other than white in the jar?
You mentioned it was like 63 where you live, are you incubating/heating the colonizing jars? If you are, do not. 63 is fine for colonization as well, heating it may cause it to dry and stop growing, as well as get contaminated, since most contaminants thrive in warmer climates.

The jars are white w no contamints.
I have a heating pad under the colonization chamber. The kit I originally bought said heat with heating pad to 77-81

Most contaminants are white. Heating pads only invite more contaminants. So I somewhat suspect your assumption that there are none could be misguided. That's too high of a temp anyway. 65-75F is perfect. The myc is ~5 degrees hotter than the surrounding area, putting the inside of the jar up to around 86, which bacteria loves. The same bacteria that's probably making it take >5 weeks to colonize.
You want a temperature that mycelium is okay with, and bacteria and mold hate. Not a temperature that bacteria and mold love, and cubensis only likes slightly more than 65F.

Cool. Looks like some are okay so I'll fruit those and start from scratch. Gotta get more spores then start printing.
