I can't get my sentry safe open

I've had a combination sentry safe since the beginning of this summer maybe may or june I bought it. It's been burried all summer so its in rough shape with some rust, lots of scratches and some dents. I moved last week and brought my safe with me, worked the first few days, and now the handle is stuck. I put the code in and the handle turns as it's supposed to for about a half inch, the the handle gets stuck. Once it gets to this point I can turn the handle all the way around 360 degrees. It jumps about an inch or two and can turn either direction either way around. I'm not too worried about getting it open cause I don't have anything in there i need desperately but it would be nice to open it. If anyone has ideas it would be appreciated. This is the safe it was 140$ https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=l&ai=DChcSEwiQu-2t5tzOAhWQPIEKHS5eACgYABAH&sig=AOD64_0_m6WNl9q16aX-7GMD96ApDLhtmw&ctype=5&q=&ved=0ahUKEwjQ--et5tzOAhUJVh4KHdZlDccQvhcIIg&adurl= If you're having trouble understanding what the knob is doing, I can upload pictures or a video

it was buried above ground really - I put it up against this old wall I found and buried it by putting dirt and rocks over it so it was hidden just not that hidden

It looks like its just a combo safe.
I would look up the manual on the safe from the manufacturer there is a chance there could be a master combo thats gonna work.
If not you can try cutting the damn thing open or drilling out the lock maybe?
if its just a damaged lock because of dirt and shit, then theres a good chance that the only way to get it open would be a locksmith or cutting it open with a grinder, there might not a way to keep the safe usable.

Smash the corner without the hinges into concrete. If that doesnt work get a big ass pry bar and try bending it open/ snapping the lock. If that doesnt work drop it off a big ass building on concrete. I would try crowbar first, then smashing the corner, if u could possibly smash the corner and get the crowbar in further it might work better. Or you could possibly try crowbarring the lock off and figuring out how its jamming, or you could get a diamond saw blade and cut the hinges off which would probably work since its a cheaper safe. Yea if it were me id try crowbar first, then diamond saw blade if you have one, if not smash the fuck out of it.

That's what you get for buying a sentry safe. Cheapest pieces of shit on the market. You can break into it with a 5 minute youtube video.
Take it to the locksmith, have it cut open and buy a real safe.

The briefcase looking sentry fire safes are the easiest to break into. All you do is drop it from about 5 feet on the corner opposite of the hinges and they just pop open like a pinata.

Sentry's are cheap safes.
I used to be locksmith.
If the handle is stuck, it's unlocking but it's likely the bolt mechanism is rusted/seized. Besides trying to douse the bolts inside the locked door with lubricant and the handle itself, there isn't much else to do besides cutting the safe open and cutting your losses.
I concur with patial's advice
Except I should add that people should educate themselves on safes. The word safe is deceiving in itself. Cheap Sentry safes are fire rated only. Meaning that their only purpose is to stop things from burning in a house fire. Usually a 1 hour rating. They aren't designed to keep people out
There are safes with security ratings and media rated safes are like enhanced fire rated safes. And there is different classes of all these types of safes

I'm not gonna drop it cause I don't want the bottle of liquor in there to break. I'm also in a dorm so I can't use powertools really I'll just bring it back to town one day and then drill it open - I have a 3/8" diamond drill bit somewhere so i may try that. I don't care about destroying the safe so anyone with advice on how to forcefully open it or cut it open I'll probably do that.

The problem is the bolts not retracting.
So drilling the lock, for example, will do nothing.
You can pry the door open with a pry bar

The bolts seem to get stuck at a certain point, I can feel them retract for the first half inch of the handle turning and that's when the handle seems to miss and keeps going around. How can I pry it open if the bolts are still in the locks?

Because I went over this already....
It's a fire rated safe only. It's not designed to stop forced entry. With a decent pry bar you can bend the door/bolts enough that you get it to slip past...especially if they are retracting half the way already
But you can try lubing up bolts and handle and see if it will let loose. You might save your safe that way

What kind of safe we talking?
Money/burglary rated?
Media rated?
Fire rated?
Fire and money rated?
Most people buy safes for an assortment of various reasons and don't trust bank security deposit boxes
I have a fire rated/media rated safe where I keep flash drives full of family pictures and memories. I would be devastated if I lost all those pics of my kids in a fire.
And other random memorabilia

It takes some muscle and a good pry bar, but yeah, they are weak. Not designed to keep a determined person out
Money rated safes with glass relockers and all that shit are another story

Buy a can of silicone spray at the autoparts store, or a can of penetrating oil like PB blaster or whatever. this works if it's stuck and I use it on rusted parts all the time. maybe that's not what you need though I cant follow your OP

Yeah I guess., I personally don't own a crowbar and have friends in the locksmith buisiness and they usually do it for 10-20$ and it doesn't have to be destroyed . But yeah prolly best to just pry it open

You are missing the point
In this case it does have to be destroyed. The bolts are seized in a half locking position. Unless he can lube them up and get them to break it free, prying it open is the only way. It's quick and easy and fast.
I have opened nearly 30 sentry safes this way for customers. And I charged 15 minutes labour to do so. Which was 20 bucks plus tax
I guess worth it for someone who doesn't have a good pry bar tho, agreed
20 bucks isn't much in the grand scheme of things

Safes are a "get what you pay for thing"
Good safes cost good money.
Look for a burglary AND fire rating. Generally you will see a "tl" rating. Like TL-15. That's a tool rating. It basically means that a professional with all the right tools and knowledge, would take a guaranteed 15 minutes minimum to open it. The higher the TL rating, the higher the security and price. UL ratings (underwriter laboratory) are a good stamp to have but not necessary. Glass relockers are generally standard on most burglary rated safes.
I like brawn and American security safes
I like mechanical over electronic
If you want burglary and fire rated, be prepared to spend a minimum of 700 dollars for new, with a 1000+ the more likely range.
Edit: I should note those prices are on the low side and for a tl-15 rating only and no fire rating. Having both makes the price dramatically start to increase

A Walmart safe? Almost guaranteed to be marketing posturing.
Can you link me to the exact safe?
Never mind. We already know it's a fire rated sentry. Yes you can pry it open
Or take it to a locksmith and have him force it open for 20 bucks

Yeah, don't need it. But took a look for shits and giggles. It's a Walmart sentry. Enough said
Pry it open with a good pry bar. Or take it to a locksmith and pay them 20 Bucks to do it
And then buy a real safe . One you don't need to bury

Go buy a pry bar and some wd40 silicone var.
If the wd40 won't do it then use the bar Those two products will last a while and they will cost just a few bucks more than a locksmith.

Cheap insurance for valuable documents, precious metals/$, weaponry.
If I was to store something outside. I would use ammo cans, large pvc pipe, or a ss welded box with two valves on it. One valve as a bleed(outlet) and one as an inlet. I would then purge out the O2 with N2 along with an O2 and desiccant pouch as added protection. It will be good to go till the end of time if you treat the gasket with a protectant. If you are using steel cans clean them then coat them in a protectcant cold galvanized, bedliner, POR15, even a heavy marine grease such as blue yamaha grease will add a lifetime of protection.
