BY fruiting i mean it had 3 coin sized in vitro pins, and this was a 400ml jar i filled with left over BRF mix with an extra half of sugar cane mulch to actually fill the jar.
i was hoping to see at least 1 fruit out the top but it didnt happen, so i tore it out of the jar, since the jar wasnt open mouth, and shoved the pieces into various areas in about the centre of a hay bale. They hay is fresh and hasnt seen too much rain, while humid inside, its not damp or visibly rotting.
Any chance the king oyster will take over the bale and produce fruits? its outside next to my chicken coup, often in the shade, but up wind from the coup.
The bottom of the jar showed some contams starting which is why i took the top 2/3rds of the cake, the bottom contaminated half i put in some wood mulch, not expecting anything from it though.
this wasnt an intentional attempt to innuculate the hay bale, id just like to know my chances. The contam was black and seemed to only grow on the sugar cane mulch, ive seen that kind before, its very very slow growing and doesnt really seem too aggressive regardless of where it grows, even in a dish, it might just make one dot and never spread.

Nope, they are a finicky species that only pin in 50-60 degrees and fruits at 60-70, not mention they do not like straw at all, any other oyster you most definitely will see mushrooms making their way, but not king oysters. Maybe during the winter you got a shot with that if you keep it colonized.

All oysters grow on straw, but King Oyster has way low BE on it. The best sub for it is supplemented sawdust.
