Yeah, waiting to see what the insurance company says. May be getting a new car. Guess that's exciting.

The emt was shocked, My heart rate was completly normal after. I was like, "Yeah, I don't get worked up over things anymore." hah I'm on blood thinners so I had to go in and get a ct scan. Other than a stiff neck and headache I'm cool. Got a script for norco 10's and they sent me on my way.

That looks suspicious, that picture. I'm guessing you are at fault?  Or did someone make a turn that wasn't expected and wrong.

Watched a elderly couple drive straight into me from a parking lot at Walgreens and I just stared thinking this guy has to see me and he just kept going.  And crash.

Yours looks severe but like the other guy posted at least your ok.  The no judgement zone, even if you are at fault.  Your front side picture.

Never had a airbag go off in my face.  Can it break your nose or is it like a hard pillow flying into your face?

I've been in several accidents in my time. Crushed metal is always better than a crushed body. If you walked away without the latter, be grateful - I've been there and it ain't fun.

Fault was mine. I was turning out of the parking lot, It's a two lane road. For some reason a semi stopped in the lane closest to me for no reason and was just sitting there. It was clear so I said fuck it and turned out. Car must have came up pretty fast and I didn't see it once i started to pull out and the truck was obstructing my view.

I shouldn't have pulled out. I immediatly regreted the decision that's for sure.

i had to go down there with valid id and birth certificate. they didnt think anybody could live through an accident like that.

i basically rolled a 93 jeep wrangler 7 times down a cliff only to be stopped by a side of a boulder that got jammed inbetween the roll cage on the drivers side window and the windshield. before another 5-7 foot sheer drop

wow. good to see you're still alive. If something like that happened to me, i don't know where my birth cert is. I'd probably go to the insurance company and make a video if they asked me that, as the agents know me in person because I pay cash every 6 months.

I just got a recall notice for the car. Apparently when the airbag depolys sometimes it shoots metal shards out and kills people. Happy it didn't deploy. hah

I'm 110% sure. That's totaled FOR SURE.

Insurance companies will generally total any vehicle if the damages cost more than a few thousand to fix.. which a few thousand could just be a couple body panels.
Doesn't have to have a bent frame or core support damage or anything.

My friend was just side swiped and his vehicle is being totaled.

OP: Glad you are ok man. That's kind of insane the airbag didn't even deploy..
I was also recently in the first car crash of my life after like 18 years of driving.

I straight went unconscious from exhaustion after working like 65 hours that week and barely getting any sleep or food. Woke up slamming into a tree.

Thanks. Damn man I'm glad the front of mine just got clipped. Head on collison seems far scarier. Did you come to before you crashed or just some time after?

I'm thinking the airbag  on mine didn't depoly since the impact was on the side and didn't push the body back to hit activate the sensor.

The insurance is preparing for it to be a total.

My wife got in an accident a few years  back in an old Aztek we had. The damages on it ended up being close to 4 grand and the insurance fixed it. The total value of the car was at most 3 grand I was baffled. That ford has way more damage though thats for sure.

I came to right as I was crashing, during the impact. Or shortly after.. hard to tell...

I came out relatively unscathed for how serious of an impact it was. Hit the tree doing about 45mph by estimates.
My front roof rack went flying off and my dashcam recorded everything up until about 10 seconds before the impact.. impact corrupted the video so I couldn't see it.. it was pretty severe.

Had three compression fractures in my lower vertebrae (probably from the seatbelt) and a bump on the forehead from the airbag.
After the first MRI they thought the spinal injury was more severe than it was and were talking about surgery and shit...
After the second more extensive MRI they realized the first one was a false positive and it was relatively minor (for a spinal injury..)

I was in bed for 2 days and on the 3rd day they had me walking around, walked out of the hospital that night and went to work the next day heh.
Had to wear a brace for a couple weeks but aside from that and some painkillers, they just told me to take it easy and it will heal naturally.

All in all I got lucky as fuck. Neurologist was telling me most people she sees come in with similar spinal injuries can't even walk or go to the bathroom normally for months... if not longer or permanently.
I credit a lot of that to the German engineering. Car did its job by absorbing most of the impact. If I was driving a lesser car I'd probably still be in the hospital or dead.

i wouldnt say it was a 110% just by the looks of it.. i worked for a dealer/body shop, saw some crazy shit they didnt total that i thought was totaled for sure. for example i saw bent/cracked frames being repaired that werent a write off.

That's crazy... maybe it's just some insurance companies. Or maybe CA is just super nazi about it.
I've seen people around here get their cars totaled from super minor damages... like my friend who got rear ended by someone at about 10-15mph.
No frame damage... just the rear bumper was messed up, a tailight and the rear quarter panel. I thought they would repair it for sure.. nope.. totaled.
Could have been repaired to brand new for around 2k

When I talked to the insurance person after my accident... they asked what shape is the car in? I'm like oh it's totaled for sure.
She's like thanks but we'll let the adjuster make that determination.
Got a call an hour later saying yeah I'm sorry to say but it's definitely a total loss, as if that was some kind of a surprise to me. They just had to take one look.

OP glad you're ok, good way to wake from your everyday complacency.
that's hardcore I just sold my 93 wrangler F that..

I have only been in one accident in my life and it was in a truck I stole in Iraq that had about 8 people zip tied in the back. Alternator was out so the headlights just kept getting dimmer and I was leading a convoy, drove off a 4 foot cliff into a ditch doing 35-40 mph. Half my detainees went flying over the cab and engine(hood was missing), my buddy was fuking pissed cause he was hanging out the window with a flashlight when it happened. All good though we had all of them lift the front end of the truck out of the ditch at gunpoint while I was flooring it in reverse. I didn't get hurt cause I was wearing my flake vest when I hit the dash aha mamories
