Are my spawn bags ready for a monotub tek grow?

Hello. I bought, inoculated, and incubated (at 82F) four 5-grain spawn bags from a popular online mushroom grow supply store two weeks ago for a starter grow, but I'm not exactly sure what constitutes a "fully colonized" bag, so I want to ask questions before I mess up this project this far into it. Does every single grain need to be coated in mycelium, or is a large spot or two on every grain sufficient? The place that I purchased the bags from has a downloadable PDF that shows what the bags look like when they're fully colonized, and my bags look extremely similar, but they say that it can take 40 days for a bag to fully colonize and look like the one in their example. They also say not to break the bags or mycelium up, but I saw reviews on their website that say that it cut the incubation time in more than half, so I took the risk, and I think that it was worth it. I broke up the spawn bags to spread the mycelium around frequently, maybe once every three days after a good amount of mycelium had already formed, and now I have bags that are slightly warm and compact from the density of the mycelium. So, is that enough, or do they still need more time? I will include a picture of a bag before I break it up, and what I see when I break up the bag, to figure out if they're fully colonized. Thank you to anyone willing to help this noob out, I'll be sure to pass any information that's shared with me on to the next generation of noobs

Hey, thanks a lot for the fast reply. I just got my casing bags in the mail today. I can't wait to get this started and eventually get more experienced so I can conduct some more advanced teks. For now, I'm going to throw the substrate and casing in the bin according to the directions and leave it in the dark for 10 days. I'm going to get this shroom growing show on the road right away, thanks again for the help

Spawn bags ready. You don't need to case or do the dark thing.

I already put the casing on before I saw your post. I cut some large garbage bags to put over my storage bins, and now they're sitting under a table where there isn't any light. Why would they tell me that I need to put my bins in the dark so the casing can colonize? Do I need to put them in the dark if I use casing? I'm sorry for all the questions, I'm just very confused.

Light deprivation is outdated, that's all.
It hasn't proven to be helpful.
No worries about the casing.
Just wanted to help you keep it simple!

Understood. I appreciate it. I'll stop putting the garbage bags over them, then. That was getting to be a real pain, so I'm glad that I don't have to do it anymore. So, do I put a light bulb by the bins right now, or wait to see mycelium through the casing layer? I already did the casing thing, but now I'm curious. Should I have just put the colonized substrate in the bin and stop screwing around with it?

Light is supposed to be beneficial to mushrooms during all of its life cycle but I have not really noticed any negative consequences of depriving them of light during colonization. It definitely wouldn't hurt to have a light there for them at this point though. The important thing is to give them light when they start pinning and try to keep it on a 12/12 cycle through harvest. They will grow without any light at all but you will have much better results with.

So, it wouldn't do any harm to
1. Stop putting them in the dark 2. Put a 12/12 light near the bin right now 3. Just leave them alone until mushrooms form
Am I correct?

There's so much conflicting information out there, that's why I come to the pros at The Shroomery to find out what's the best course of action so I don't fubar my whole project. There's plenty of ways to skin a cat, but I only want to know the best way, for lack of a better metaphor. My cat wouldn't be very happy with me if I did that, so I'll just grow mushrooms instead. Thank you for your help

When you start to see the white growth in your bags should you give it a shake?

Let it establish itself for a few days after you first see it before doing that, do it gently and not too often because it's a vector for contams

Incubation, dark during colonization, and "colonization period " are all outdated misinformation... it's been realized that room temperature for grain is suitable, and reduces risk of contamination when compared to incubation... 12/12 lighting has been shown beneficial to mycelium through all stages of growth from spore to spent... And many of us see faster colonization, better flushes, and less issue with contamination introducing "fruiting conditions" at spawn ; mushrooms and mycelium are aerobic organisms that require oxygen for healthy growth... other than that, spawn up and let's see some fruit!(~2 weeks from now)
Shake around 20%, being sure to mix thoroughly, then spawn once recovered back to 100%
