Where do you guys go to torrent now?
Tpb, kickass, torrentz were all shut down. Still have my demonoid account from 10+ years ago, but thats still garbage.
Whats used nowadays? All the mirrors and clones seem to be shit.
Are there any good invite only sites?

What kind of stuff are you looking for?
Movies can still be found on torrents, but there are streaming sites that make it unnecessary. You can direct download from them usually as well.
http://www.primewire.ag/
^Can find just about anything using this site as far as TV and Movies go, and just use a direct download link. I typically just stream something to my TV. Beats Netflix, and it's free.
For music, streaming sites have pretty much elapsed the need for torrents, but you can still find torrents of popular music as well.
I hear What.CD is a good source for music, but it's supposedly a strict site that interviews you and asks you physics questions before they let you in. I've never seeked it myself, but if music is what you're looking for that's the way to go.
If not Movies or Music, then Programs. If it's music related programs, there is one site that kills all others, and will always have more music creation resources than any torrent site could dream of.
https://audioz.download/
Warez is the way to go for programs of all types. Usually if you search for the program name + rapidgator, you will be able to find a link. There are other upload sites other than rapidgator such as Upload To and Putlocker as well. In searching, you'll land on forums and websites dedicated to a particular niche of software warez hoarding such as music, photoshop/art, video resources and whatever else.
Games? They too go to warez sites if they get cracked. Just gotta watch for certain groups that do the cracking. All is more reliable than torrents have ever been, and direct downloading cracked and pirated files is virtually impossible to slow down like they've done with torrenting.

No they don't work properly, and yes we do censor the internet. My last two ISPs have sent me repeated warnings for downloading content.. 2-3 years ago it wasn't like that. Clearnet is on the downhill and it's going to crash hard. Torrentz and kat was serious shit, torrentz being around for like 15 years. It was my first torrent source. Pirating will be moving away from the current system in the next few years, and I suspect it won't be nearly as big atleast for the first few years, much like tor marketplaces.

It's going to diminish slowly for sure, but not only because of them closing torrent sites. Torrent sites are like the last kink in the chain of pirated files, it's where the popular stuff ends up. The trackers themselves can pop up as soon as they go down, copied, hosted with ease on anyone's server briefly until it gets closed again. Private sites will always be around as well. And direct download sites, which have more content in specific areas than most torrent sites do, will reign supreme as they have since the Internets inception.
The real reason it will diminish is because they are finding new ways to lock content. They have programs that cannot be cracked anymore, games too. It'll be many years, but movies and music will be the same, they'll lock content using encryption so that the file cannot be easily shared with unregistered users. Media will start to be released in new formats, programs will be completely uncrackable with modern methods (will take too many millions of man hours to crack something).
It's not the laws that are going to kill file sharing - as the law has pretty much been against it since before the floppy disk - it's going to be the content creators and distributors finding new ways to protect the content itself.
On the plus side, everything will go down in price as well, or be on subscription cloud services. Even video games will be completely streamed in the near future.

I can go to jail for mushrooms too, so your argument is invalid.
I'd agree it's theft even though it's a copy though. I just don't care. I'll buy games, music and programs a lot of the time though regardless.

It's not theft if you're not taking anything from anyone. Plus, these are people who are voluntarily offering you a copy of something, not people who you are stealing from.

the way I see it, the majority of those wealthy musicians, actors, software developers, music producers, etc... they're all liberals they want to tax everyone more heavily so they can distribute that money to the less fortunate and all that pirating their work is doing is helping them to give of themselves instead of them making everyone but them give. they would want us to have it

Thanks man. I did a Yahoo search for it, so maybe I found some rip off, copycat site? Glad I asked. Thanks again.

Explain why.
Piracy VERY OFTEN increases sales.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/digital-piracy-not-harming-entertainment-industries-study-1.1894729 https://yro.slashdot.org/story/13/10/04/1244239/more-evidence-that-piracy-can-increase-sales http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2011/12/05/swiss-government-study-finds-internet-downloads-increase-sales/#3de7c14b3063 http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2176246
I know in terms of music in particular, many artists encourage people to "pirate" their music. More people listening means more exposure means more people coming to your shows and buying merch.
Same thing with people who pirate video games and movies. People may be on the fence to see a movie... decide to pirate it to check it out..like it.. and tell all their friends, and go to see it in the theater to get the full experience. Where otherwise they wouldn't have seen it at all.
People may pirate a video game, like it.. then decide to buy it to support the developer and spread the word... and look into the devs other games. It happens.
Piracy doesn't really hurt anyone and there's no theft involved, and it very often INCREASES the sales of the company they are "pirating" from... so I fail to see how it qualifies as morally reprehensible.

You're thinking in terms of money, but that's not the whole picture.
If I walk into your house and rummage through your drawers, does that cost you money? No. Have you still been victimized? Yes. It's because I violated your right to choose who walks into your house. You're now somewhat less secure in your privacy. Are you any less victimized if I leave a hundred bucks on the counter each time? No.
Copyright is the right to control how ones work is copied. At its core, it is about choosing how many copies of your work still exist.
Now, you may agree or disagree about whether that right should be protected, but the fact is that, as a society, we've chosen to protect that right, and artists create knowing that this right is protected. That's part of the social compact that we all live in.
By exempting oneself from the rules of society while simultaneously benefiting from those rules that encourage art to be created, one is taking advantage of those around oneself.
Now, if an artist wants to have his work freely distributed, that's his call. It's not okay, however, for you to make that call for him.

It's a double edged sword. It can be a means of promoting something and giving it exposure, and it can surely kill it as well. Software is a big one, and can be helped tremendously by piracy, or hurt by it to the point of everything being a waste of time in creating it. It all comes down to the audience, as every audience doesn't necessarily have a philanthropic subset willing to buy things after trying.
I would agree that it does more good for exposure than harm a majority of the time. But it's not one way or another every time.

That's all well and good... but piracy isn't breaking into someone's house and rooting through their underwear drawer.
Piracy would be you taking a picture of your underwear drawer, posting it online for sale - and then someone making or distributing a copy of that picture. Then all of a sudden you have 50,000 people who want to buy your underwear pictures out of nowhere.
I'm not saying it's "good across the board". But it does benefit the people who get pirated from - more often than not.
Even on the software side of things, while I'll agree sometimes companies do get hurt from pirated software. More often the case is that more people using that software = more interest in the company = more money. Even the people who pirate the software, in their releases and the readme notes they almost always say.. if you like this software.. buy it and support the company! Not that everyone follows that. But many actually do. Some people want to try out the full versions of software before they shell out $500 for it.
How many people bought Adobe Master Collection or whatever, that wouldn't have otherwise.. simply because they pirated it first? I bet it's a lot.
The only people concerned with people "illegally" downloading their music... are Metallica with their 50 million dollar 24k gold toilets and the billionaire music industry execs who exploit musicians for a living.. all of a sudden they are getting exploited and it's a capitol sin. The vast majority of musicians make their money from shows, so the more people listening to their music, the better.. whether they paid for it or not.
The biggest complaint made against piracy is that it hurts sales. But that's not really true at all..

Sounds like rationalization to me.
Stealing from the rich isn't any less immoral than stealing from the poor, and it's really not up to you to decide whether someone else would be better off with you violating his/her rights.

And I never said anything about the socio-economic status of a "victim" changing the morality of it. I just stated the people who have the biggest problems with piracy, are usually the already filthy rich ones, for whatever reason.

We're never going to agree. You want free music and software, and you don't want to feel like you're immoral. Pretending that you're doing someone a favor is silly, but whatever helps you sleep at night.
I reached a point where I could no longer rationalize the behavior, so I quit. You may or may not reach that point someday.

I hate to say it, but I do think that eventually the internet is going to be throttled and we will look back and sigh that one day we had open access to nearly everything available/possible: free music/media/software via torrenting, online drug trade etc.
I am too stoned to make any kind of cohesive point here, but I do think the Golden Age of the internet is winding down.
I hope that I'm wrong.
