As state in this thread https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23571294/gonew/1#UNREAD. many others. Myc like cooked subs. Even cooked coir. So why not cook coir in a crock pot or oven or steriler streamer for a day or two. I'm sure this has been asked and tested.

Sterilizing coir is ok, but if you overcook it (1 or 2 days as you said), it will contam by itself.
(and please people don't say me it's not true, i actually DID the experiment)

I guess it doesn't matter really as long as you get the results ?? You could electrocute it if you could find out how many volts you needed

i'll had to redo it i guess, really not sure if i still have the paper where i wrote the results.
But basically i boiled the same batch of coir on my stove every 2 days(for 30 minutes), and i kept a little bit in a jar after each cooking.
after 4 cooking it started to mold pretty fast (a very fast and very whispy white mold)
I guess the interesting fact here is that it greatly increased nutrient availability (or something like that). It could be a good thing to overcook it like that for Mudafuka bottle tek https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21168958
Edit: no control in that experiment, when i'll move to my new house, i'll redo it with a proper control.

Ill do the cock pot experiment for a hole day soon since i have spawn ready and coir ready to burn. It's hard to do a proper control with molds. I wish id thought of the boiling a few days thing

I sterilized coir in a PC and did okay.
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19178683
That was just the first time I did that. Done it many times since as well. If coir molds it's usually because of something else.

The main experiment data i guess would be to see which does quick colonized sub and many other healthy myc factors.

i don't think it will ever mold after a single pc cycle, (or a single cooking cycle) As you said it's usually the foreign stuff in the coir that attract mold.
Edit: also the 2 days resting time could be a factor, it could have allowed bacteria to weaken the coir between each cooking?

If overcooking it allow mold to set in, you wouldn't want that in a bulk sub i guess XD

i'm 100% sure your coir didnt mold because of four 30min heat treatments.

I'm having a hard time understanding what you guys are doing in this thread, if you wanted to sterilize or pasteurize large anounts of coir in a run, a 55 gallon drum steamer is exactly what you need, but I would load the sub into bags. It only takes a 12 hour steam at atmospheric pressure to sterilize sawdust, so 24 hours total with getting up to temp or less if there is a small amount of pressure. This is completely inefficient though for a batch or two of coir.

Well roaster im doing this because i firgured out that cooking my coir for Pasteur it. The my myc have double there speed eating the coir. I idea is to see instead of 12 days to fruiting with bucket tek or d 6days for oven baked pasteurization and 6 days into fruiting. I want to cook coir into 3 to 5 days until fruiting.

that's not how it works, use clean spawn if you want fast colonization.

Pasty, i saw the results of cooked coir, and inoc's results too. Do you typically sterilize it? That is, are the results worth that extra effort, as opposed to bucket tek?
And tump, i don't think coir had the same beneficial microorganisms poo has, so pasteurizing isn't necessary here.

Depends. If you're just looking to prep a couple bricks worth and have a good size pc then do it. If I was looking to prep 6 bricks tho I would probably just stick to the bucket.
It does make for a nice robust colony but then again a good culture will do that regardless.

Straight up bucket Tek is just fine for coir. Sterilized Coir is more susceptible to contams but you'll like using it if your environment is clean and you have good sterile technique. Mycelium Loves munching sterile coir like it was candy. It colonizes it super fast. Just dont use it for casing it will just end up being colonized..

Sterilized coir is just as resistant as bucketed coir and pasteurized.

its fuckin coir.... I wish people could start realize it. we should be way past the period where people blamed the bucket tek for their dirty spawn to bulk fail. or sterilized coir for that matter
