I usually prep in the oven but I'm out of bags with the thermometer all the way in its around 180 but right there it's 165 if I have it all the way in where it reads 160 then right there usually is 140-165

If its coir, I would just put regular filter jar lids on and PC them for an hour. It's too tedious trying to pasteurize in jars like that. Especially since its not necessary for coir. There is no good bacteria to preserve, so its just not needed like it is with hpoo.

Ya first time using straight coir I usually use hpoo straw and professor pinheads hpoo/coir verm gypsum but I have a clone of pe I wanna try out on cvg... so pcing cvg is fine to spawn in open air? I've read yays and nays on it but that would be much easier then watching the needle

Yep. Its totally fine. I've even seen some TCs swear by it. Even the normal open air spawning won't cause any problems with sterilized CVG.

OK so that answers my question for these jars even of partially sterilized I'll be good but I'm about to do some hpoo/coir would the way that thermometer is sitting be good or is it better all the way in the jar resting on the foil ? Basically I'm trying to get a few grows where I'm not hit with trich or other nasties haha

I would say if that needle is pretty centralized and pushed down all the way in that jar and it reads 155-160 then you are good. It's been a long time since I pasteurized, but when I did it, I had another thermometer in the water so that way I could measure water temp too. That way I could ensure that I am not going too high (partial serilizing the outside) while the jars core temp climbs.

Well I'm using Franks proper tek and have always wondered that because I know the outside gets past 200 but read that as long as the core is 165 Max it's OK but then I get the hulk fucking my shit up.... so I should keep the water at about 155-165 Max ? Till the core is at temp and run that for an hour ? Cause I get free hpoo and can't afford to buy straight coir well not at the moment anyway one three pack is 6 tubs with my hpoo

I have grown lots with sterilized coir. It won't hurt a thing. The myc prefers it IME.

I believe the outside pretty much is always pretty much partially sterilized. All that really matters is the core though. As long as you save some of those beneficial microbes, its all good. You shouldn't really need to measure the water temp I don't think it will tell you anything significant. I am talking hpoo though, coir doesn't matter as pasty said. Either sterlize it totally or bucket tek it IMO.

OK like I said this is my first cvg and just was making sure so thanks for clearing that up I appreciate it but I mostly do hpoo so as long as the thermometer reads 160 somewhere I'll be OK ? The thermometer is usually like three inches in the jar with one in a half out

Yeah just try to estimate the center of it. Frank's tek is on point.

Right on thanks I've used it before but making three and four tubs at a time it's easier in the oven and less clean up but bags cost money so it's really lose lose either way you look at ityou know?? But thanks again you guys
