Why do some cakes fruit invitro?
    #23570516 - 08/23/16 08:33 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

Hey team

I couldn't find a straight answer really but I want to know why exactly cakes fruit in vitro and some don't. What are the main factors that cause invitro fruiting? I let my cakes colonize and consolidate for lots of time. They are PES amazonian and not a single sign of pinning prior to birthing. Not that it matters really to me as they are in their FC now and getting ready to fruit soon yippee!

Thanks for the knowledge!

they all do if you leave them long enough. sometimes though contamination especially bacteria encourages in-vitro pinning.

so you are saying if perhaps a contam is introduced into the jar the myc will force itself into a fruiting stage? so invitro fruiting is actually a sign of improper procedure prior to that point in time?

If mycelium is stressed, the organism will do anything it can in a last ditch effort to sporulate and reproduce. Sometimes in vitro pinning just happens. I once read to try and clone them if on grain if you know your spawn is clean but I forget why and think I got it wrong.

almost, fruiting before 100% colonization implies contams or bacteria, fruiting invitro after 100% colonization is normal.
cubes dont really "NEED" anything, you can fruit your cakes in the trash can, but of course results will be lesser than if you build a proper fruiting chamber (SGFC)
