Can you isolate for a better pinset?
    #23570837 - 08/23/16 09:48 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

It's all just about getting the fastest healthiest myc.. but will this automatically give you a better pinset? Or is all about getting me shit dialed in right?

So if I clone fastest pinning fruit to agar then take best isolate from that (idk if you'd have isolation on a clone, scrub newb, i know) then that would be my best bet?

Don't worry too much about isolates it can take alot of work to get a good one... get a clone and make sure the myc is clean and transfer a wedge to grain in a master jar then take more transfers to agar and  keep it going once you get an isolate you have to test it you could of got one that's bunk or produces poorly or both just cause you get an isolate doesn't mean you will be king mushroom haha

everything from clones to isolates will need testing to find a winner, that's just the way it is so get to work it will pay off in the end.

How does one test that many? Just pf tek every one of them?

What percent of your clones were worse than equal to or worse than MS though. You probably throw 99 percent away because you already have tons of great clone slanted I'm guessing.

Bottle tek makes more tense for this, and fruit them in a monotub. You're better off testing clones on the sub you intend to grow them on.

For cubes I only have 3 clones that are real keepers. I have a single PE isolate that I hang onto cause it produces spores really well. I also have a couple other clones that are unique so i keep em around. But that's it.

Most clones were pretty average compared to ms, maybe a bit better than average I suppose.

Also I ran every clone in a mini mono to test. Usually more than once to see if cased vs uncased or something made a difference. It was a lot of work but my 3 keepers were worth it. I still want a few more to round out the collection but really, for general growing needs I am pretty set.

And again it's your voodoo haha I'd say you're set you probably needed to build a quest house for all your storing as much as you produce LMAO

That's interesting you say this. Not the impression you get when people talk about cloning.

Okay cool.
Do you notice some clones give more of an even pinset? Or is this mostly dependent on fruiting conditions?

Its no voodoo. Just a lot of hard work. Anyone can do it if they put in the time and are prepared to get disappointed a lot.

A shitty clone delivers a shitty pinset. A good clone delivers a good pinset. All cloning provides is consistent results. Conditions are important of course but some genetics are more tolerant of things than others. Consistent results. If you have a clone that doesn't do well cased, then don't case it. If you have one that seems tolerant of CO2 then run the mono with higher RH.

That's what all people who preform voodoo say haha jk no I know it's in your technique and getting everything perfect ... if you have great fruiting conditions you will have great flushes clones help make it consistent same rate if growth or just about and all that

So you're basically saying my best bet would be to just make a bunch of clones to agar of the ones I like then start testing till I get one that's a performer?

Basically ... with running clones they still have multiple strains I'm about to do two tubs tomorrow and see if either one I have is good but the more you transfer the less strains you get it's like a family tree in a way

Okay I wasn't sure if a clone would be like a monoculture or not. So if you keep transferring that clone that works good until you have 1 strain that's really nice then it's all dependent on fruiting conditions? Or would further isolating on a clone to get 1 variety impact its performance? Probably would just be super consistent results after that.

Thing about cloneing and agar is when you fine a clone strain you like you keep tranfering it to more and more new plates. Store the few good ones in deep agar dishes and sterile water tubes.

Basically once you get an isolate you would test it to see how it performs but you can get thirty isolates from a single clone if I'm not mistaken ...  but once it is an isolate you can transfer multiple multiple times and it's still the same, the original clone can still have different genes or strains so if the original clone is shit you can still transfer into something better I believe, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong tho ... but some of these growers on here just grow with MS and still have great results. a good isolate is a treat check out mycologist217s penis envy grow that's from a mono culture
