AA 50x Sterilizer question
    #23569847 - 08/23/16 05:37 PM (7 years, 7 months ago)

Does anyone use this unit safely without using the inner container? The inner container really cuts down on the space and I'd love to be able to use it safely without it. Anyone have experience with these electric sterilizers?

I never tried using it without the inner container but I'm sure it can be done. I'd use aluminum foil or something else to keep the contents from touching walls of the cooker though.

That's what I was thinking too, or jar rings. I just wanted to see if anyone actually uses it this way. Don't want to ruin it on my first run. Thing costs a small fortune.

I've never used the inner container on my 75x but I don't use bags so i'm not sure but I swear I've read they can touch the sides as well:shrug:

I'll be using jars so that's good enough for me. Thanks for the reassurance:thumbup:

oh yeah one more thing is I think your supposed to tie the tube to the top if not using the inner container as pastywhyte told me like this but he also recommended putting a zip tie to secure it in place. I also tied it a little tighter so I can fit more at a time.

a zip tie wouldn't survive a cycle at those temps.it should stay secure with it tied as shown above, yeah?

The reason the line needs to be tied up is because it's designed to move the air trapped in the basket out. Without the basket the air is trapped up at the top and all you vent is steam.

Tie it up, or remove the line if you want. Just know that if you remove the line you won't be able to use the basket.

This is precisely what I did after I stared at it for about 15 minutes. Realized the line isn't needed as long as the basket isn't there. I'm currently running a cycle right now and everything is working fine. I love this thing. Thermostat makes life much easier.
