Finishing my last semester at community college. Just went back last January after a 5+ year break. Finish in January, off to a CSU or Cal Poly. Poli Sci.
Yipee!!! I actually really enjoy school now. Doing nothing but work for 8 years will do that to you.

I'm workin on certs right now.
Doing A+ certification atm. Next will be Network +, Security +, and then I'll go for a CCNA cert. Trying to get these all done before January, when I'll be enrolling into some college courses.

How're you going to apply that? Cultivating fungus on Mars? Researching alien mushroom species?

Biodiversity and conservation at macquarie uni with a major in ecology, first year of a three year course. Hated school since kindergarten, loving every minute of uni thus far.
Which is funny.. used to be one of those people that talked so much smack on higher education before even giving it a go... now that im there, I cant believe people dont pursue higher education, even for the simple fact of how magic the learning atmosphere is.

Haven't exactly figured that out yet, but I am pretty interested in the idea of terraforming Mars using fungi. I'm really just studying the things I enjoy, not worrying about what I'm gonna do with it until later lol. I had a astrobiology teacher back in community college, that'd be a sweet class to teach lol. So maybe teaching? Idk! Hbu??

I've always considered that future civilizations would send spores to habitable planets, and instigate multi-cellular evolution of the fungi or bacteria by sending viral components to change their DNA. That way, humans could make a planet more sustainable for life well before landing people there. Seems like it'd be cool to work on something like that.

you know that no amount of grade will garner the support and money that'd require. space mining isn't even going to be a thing until all the oil is sopped up.
oh and i've been studying by myself for a decade now. my degree doesn't exist, though.

It would be relatively cheap to send spacecraft in a direction loaded with biological material. We could send dozens of probes a year for a couple thousand years and really spread genetically modified spores all over. Eventually stuff would start to land, and it could be done cheaply.
I believe that there are treaties and laws all over the world against sending life matter to Mars, because they don't want it contaminated before we find remnants of life. Once these protections are lifted (or broken), it'll be game on.

That sounds cool though, I wish I knew a lot more about Biology. I would probably study something related to Bio or science in general if I could go back.

About to be a student, I'm planning on finally going to college at 29 years old ...(anyone else here not start college until their late 20s or 30s ?)
....I'm just going to start with a couple classes the first semester to get back into the groove of school . Still not sure what exactly I'm going to pursue/major in, I'll figure it out after a semester or two, but certainly something in the fields/area of botany, ecology, mycology, phytochemistry .
Also might go the direction of getting a certificate in horticulture from the JC, and then start going to the California School of Herbal Studies.
I love learning, and I was always one of the top students in my class/school, but I fucking hate going to school, I really do.....I just want to get it over with .

The most attentive students in my classes were those who started school late. You are there for the right reasons, and as long as you remember that then you will be a good student, given you study something within your aptitude.
I got a Business Management degree, pretty basic and general overall. If I go back, it will be with clear intent and purpose. I have not yet found this muse.
Fun fact: best semester schedule was Tues-Thurs. 4 day weekend every week.
