ID request, looks (but doesn't act) like Lactarius?

This is downeast Maine, yesterday, a mixed spruce/oak/few other hardwoods forest with more light than our forests usually have, more moisture than other local spots. In this place, this mushroom is VERY prolific, and beloved by slugs who eat the stem from the top down. Almost every single one of these mushrooms had stems hollowed out by a happy slug.

They grew singly along the path but also appeared to grow in large rings in the woods.

I think it looks a little like Lactarius corrugis from pictures, but they are quite white, getting browner with some scales on the cap as they age; plus, we cut one in half without any visible latex.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactarius_resimus or a similar species.

It is likely you didn't see latex due to the insect damage lowering the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turgor_pressure.

Try this key:  http://mushroomexpert.com/lactarius

I think I see latex in the first gill shot, not sure since the picture is blurry.
