Expired potatoe flakes work for agar?

I have these potatoe flakes in the cupboard that I used for my agar. First plates. The potatoe flakes expire in 2013 .. Lol I know. But do you think this will impede mycelium growth? It's been 3-4 days and I see nothing. Am I just being impatient? Using new starch for next batch of agar btw.

that's the point of expiry dates on dry food... for you to throw it away and buy new food. cubes arent picky, and I know they dont have taste buds. 3 days is nothing.

Seems like the starch in the potatoes would degrade a lot. I don't know if that would hurt anything

Did you inoculate the agar with spores? If so it could be weeks until you see germination. I'd declare it a dud after 3 weeks. You're probably fine.

You would need to run a lot of agar to burn through a box of potato flakes before they expire. Especially if you rotate your media. Mine have been expired for a year now too, though I am at the bottom of the box lol.
