I got Fruit fly maggots in my grain jar!

Alright, so about a week ago I had some 4 day old rancid ass smelling like death WBS soaking. I was gonna throw it out but then realized I had nothing else to do that evening except drink beer and pressure cook rancid bird seed.
I really didn't have high hopes for the jars, but it was something I haven't done before so I said why not. Anyways, I MS'ed some of them and G2G'ed some of them that was a week ago and I am just finally seeing some growth from the spores on the sides, and only a few of the G2G jars have recovered and started slowly spreading though it looks like it will take a while.....
But I looked at one of the jars today and see a few fruit fly larvas!! I have had trich, bacteria, cobweb, red stuff, yellow stuff, stuff that looked like I needed to call a priest for.... but never larva in my jars. I recently decided to try the white plastic lids as I have always used the metal, I know they don't seal airtight but I don't know how much space is in there. One of the jars I remembered seeming kind of loose and I was like oh damn, but I screwed it on and figured it would be fine but I don't know if it was that jar or not. I PC'ed them for 90min and that particular one I used MS so I never even opened the lid. Other than those bastards I don't see any signs of contamination and finally after a week I am starting to see some growth so I just set it aside to see who wins the battle, fruit fly or mushroom! If it gets that far.
Anyone else find maggots in their jars? I am currently battling fruit flies for supremacy of my house, but never thought I'd find them in my jars.

Thats very strange, do you have photos? what kind of filters and injection ports are you using on the jars? it had to of happened when you g2g transferred, were you using a flow hood, or a SAB?

I would love to see a pic of those flies.
Interesting, I've never encountered it. How did you p.c. and for how long? what do your jars have for lids?
Answer for an answer.

I've had this before.
Clean your place out. Especially the garbage and refrigerator. Give it a couple weeks and start over. Fruit flys and gnats are a PITA, once you have them, they linger and proceed to fuck up your grows if you cant get rid of them. Luckily, most of the time, you can keep them down to a seasonal problem.
The last place I lived was tropical and they were perpetual. The solution I found was to change my Tek. I moved to an exclusive Invitro grow bag system. And when the fruit fly/gnat problem was high, I would use parafilm on my plastic lids for an extra layer of protection.
I tried freezing my spawn jars for those that were already infected. The success was very limited and ended up ruining the spawn in more cases than not. There were a few that pulled through though. All of the jars that were left to "See what happens" failed though.
My advice is to clean house, wait a couple weeks, and start over.

Alright guys, I gotcha some pics.....

I'm no stranger to gnats and fruit flys, I've had them infest subs and just be annoying as hell.... I just never had them show up in a PC'ed (90 Min) spawn jar before. As I said those jars took ages to start growing, that jar is about 2 weeks old and you can see how much growth is there.... but aside from the maggots there doesn't seem to be any other contaminations in the jar to show up yet, so I'm just gonna watch eagerly to see what happens between mushroom vs. gnat as the jar slowly colonizes.

Happened to me once. Had to toss them because it became bacterial. Had those little shits in my SGFC for weeks. Can try to make a trap using a bottle and some apple cider vinegar. Works well.

I would count those jars a loss at this point. If anything good comes from them, Ill be very surprised.

The problem is that your lids do not have a sealing gasket underneath. Those plastic lids will not create a tight seal. Don't believe me? Take a new one and fill a jar with water and turn it upside down. Don't fret though you can simply use a "tattler" ring https://www.amazon.com/Reusable-Replacement-Canning-Jar-Ring/dp/B004I8B4K0. A more ghetto way some people do it is use a big rubberband at the very tip top of the jar.

Agreed. I use lids similar to this exclusively, and that has not caused this problem.

It is exactly why. I've had it happen before with those lids until I used a gasket.

Oh no. You are the right one. I just didnt know what I was talking about back there. Yes. It is totally possible for those plastic lids to keep out microbes, but at the same time allow entry for insects/larvae/eggs. What was I even thinking?

So magic then? They say not for processing on the box for a reason. They do not seal. With a seal they are fine. Like I said, take one of these lids and turn it upside down with water in a jar and see for yourself.

So OP says... "Alright, so about a week ago I had some 4 day old rancid ass smelling like death WBS soaking. I was gonna throw it out but then realized I had nothing else to do that evening except drink beer and pressure cook rancid bird seed. ...But I looked at one of the jars today and see a few fruit fly larvas!!" And your helpful response is that it came through between the threads, between the weak seal of the plastic lid and the glass, and burrowed down deep into his jars? You didn't act like it was just possible, but more like its the hands down answer, fuck pondering any further. Did you even read the OP?
EDIT: Lets not argue any farther, at least not in someones thread. If you want to continue arguing then PM me I guess.

What else could cause it? There's no way they survived the p.c. process, obviously they got in somehow.

After I PC'ed them I set them out and didn't knock them up till a day later, as I was moving them to the location where I was gonna do it is when I noticed one of the lids was a little loose, so I dont know how big the gap was and I don't even really know if that was the same jar, but I'm gonna just assume that is when it happened. I have gotten the flies in my house closer to under control, I have traps everywhere.... but I see them occasionally crawling around the filters on my jars and around the threads, so I can definitely see them trying to fly up in the grooves.
At this point I just think its funny, if I don't keep seeing something new, I get bored quick. So I don't care what the ultimate outcome of this jar is (I considered bacteria might eventually win) I'm having fun watching it! If it does finally colonize completely I'm gonna spawn it in a bag and fruit invitro as I usually do with any questionable jars.

Ok, following up on this jar, it is slowly chugging along and colonizing. As of several days ago I no longer saw any maggots and the jar otherwise looked like a completely normal jar with no signs of anything wrong... Then today I look at it and I finally see about 4 or so fruit flys flying around at the top of the jar! So now if they are still alive when it is fully colonized I am gonna open it outside to get rid of them and then I am gonna spawn and fruit this in a bag by itself.
