gov't and higher powers
    #2356787 - 02/19/04 10:22 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

if a scoiety doesnt have a god, or any higher power than human, then to whom do they answer? the gov't? without a higher power does the government take that niche?

well most civilized civilizations form tribes and choose a council of 'eldars' to make the spiritual and important decisions together, where the rest of the populace is in control of all the little details and how things effect their lives. The decisions are made by overwhelming majority or else it does not pass.

Not here however... we've formed a different system.. very interesting crystalline matrix, a reflection of our own repressed desires.

What you have just described sounds far more like a primitive, tribal system than anything remotely civilized.

What we have is civilization.

I answer to myself.
Personal responsibility is a greater enforcer than any god. The problem is one of becoming personally responsible.

Humans also have the ability to percieve of all life/human life as a collective. That collective could be percieved as a higher power, but it is only us.

I prefer to answer to myself. I think that is what is wrong with the modern world... there are too many other people at fault. When something goes wrong I can blame God, or blame the system, or blame the Government... we need to learn to take responsibility for our own actions.

your all speaking in personal terms, im talking about masses of people. in any country that denounces religion, it seems that the ruler or dictator of gov't takes that place as "the final word"
