Driving up north on the I-5 north....
    #23567856 - 08/22/16 11:52 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

I was wondering if anyone has had experience driving up north on the i-5 north. I'm driving from Los Angeles to Silicon Valley. I'm wondering if I should take the 101 straight there or if I should take the 5. The area between santa clarita and bakersfield...are there a bunch of mountains and hills and shit that I will be driving through? I have a small toyota corolla and want to avoid big hills at all cost. I don't want the extra wear and tear of driving up and down big ass hills.

It looks like the 101 is pretty much flat the whole way. Thanks.

You should be good after you pass the grapevine. In the end you know your car better than anybody, if you don't mind the extra drive time then the 101 might be your best bet. I just drove up there last year too but I don't remember to much because like ^ this guy I was smoking the whole way lol.

If you can try driving in the middle of the night, that way you won't hit any traffic.

The 5 is really difficult to drive through certain areas of Los Angeles. The roads get really skinny and narrow, and they start getting jagged so you have to swerve suddenly to stay in lane.

I would recommend taking the 405 and then using the 101 or the 10 to connect to the 5 to bypass these areas.

Not only that, but traffic on the 5 is a million times worse than the 405.

i forgot, the 5 also has an area of super dense cattle farms which smells just like you think it does.
