Try to know now what you'll learn as you get older?

Perhaps a less wordy phrasing would have been possible. I was once told by someone who was (not too much) older than me that you should try to know now, what you're going to learn when you get older.
I had actually thought of this before too, and most people have probably thought at some point about how the past would have transpired better if they had had some knowledge back then that they have now.
Is there even a way to obtain future knowledge/wisdom from getting older in the present though? Maybe you could guess, or consult someone older than you, but obviously someone else isn't going to have all the right answers just because they're older. It's more about what your own future self will know in relation to your present self.
It would be nice to know if there were a way to speed up the acquisition of wisdom..

You remind me, earlier today I think I saw a shroomery GIF named after you? Let's see if it works...

I spent a long time off these boards, when was this added?

Known unknowns will remain just that. To learn everything now would be to defeat life itself.

yea knowing whats next would take all the excitement out of life. not to mention the depression of knowing all the shitty stuff upcoming, way more down with that then up from the few and far between good times.
nothing wrong with trying to anticipate and progress through our paths in life but actually knowing nitty gritty details would be rough, we choose cognitive dissonance far too often as is.

Even if you have a vague idea of what you will know when you're older it's kinda difficult to get down to specifics. The specifics are things you won't know unless you find out, try things, make mistakes, etc.
I agree though it would be extremely helpful to know now what you'll know when you're older.

I don't want to know everything that I'm to learn throughout my entire life right now. But if I could just speed up my acquisition of wisdom that would be really helpful. I'm an adult but I feel like I'm slightly behind in maturity and it would be nice just to catch up a little bit then return to normal pace.
For example, there have been many situations in my life that could have gone a lot better if I had just been about two years ahead in knowledge/wisdom. If I could just close that small gap then I would be fine with moving forward at that point.

One way that I have been able to do this is by trying things or doing things or copying things that I see other people (my coworkers specifically) doing. I try to absorb as much information from my coworkers as I can, and I try to actually make use of that information. Sometimes it totally works even though I might not fully understand why, and then I feel like I skipped ahead in my knowledge.
So, maybe look at what the people who you want to be like are doing and try to copy that/learn from that.

They say that a fool learns only from his own mistakes, the wise man learns from the mistakes of others .
I don't need to ruin my life doing meth to know I shouldn't do meth.
I can see and read what happened to people like jellyfish who got into meth and know that shouldn't do the same .
The really important thing to know now is what things you will regret not doing when you are on your death bed.
There are many things worth doing that are important to do when you are still young and strong with time on your side.
I have known since I was 14 that my goals were to master meditation, yoga and martial arts.
11 years later I am so glad I started those when I did and never stopped. I do wish I had started even earlier and focused harder .
The biggest mistakes most people make are not developing an athletic lifestyle early in life (before puberty) and not practicing meditation daily.
I truly believe daily meditation from a young age is the only way to build an inner discipline that will allow you to endure the sufferings of aging with equanimity .
It's good to ask elders in your life what advice they wish they could give their young selves .

The best way to learn is from older people's experiences. The best way to do that is to read.

You have to learn from other peoples mistakes. Life is not long enough to make them all by your self.
