re-use cakes for casings?

After a couple of flushes with BRF cakes can you case the spent cakes? On all of the teks, they say to use colonized cakes, but what about ones that have already been birthed? I planned on crumbling up the spent cakes onto a layer of moist verm then adding another layer of verm on top of that, is there a better way, of using spent cakes of course.

im not sure but i think once a cake is spent that means theres no more nutrients for the mushrooms to live off of. You'll probably only get a small crop. but i guess its a good way to 'squeeze' out all the shrooms you can. report back with the results.

Oh, I would have to put into some other substrait with nutrients, like brown rice flour or some kind of seed...

The only problem I've run into with doing this is that the mycelium still thinks it's in fruiting mode and it starts sending mushrooms up through the casing layer instead of colonizing it. I guess thats not really to much of a problem though.

the more unsterilized nutrients you add to the mix the more likely you'll get contams.

Afoaf tried this once with spent b+ cakes and it just resulted in contam. He's tempted to try it again with 2 flush cakes so they have more energy left, but suspects they'd just contam too.

Will the spent cakes simply keep growing once added to another substrate? Could I soak some straw and crumble the spent cakes into the straw to have them produce more shroomies?

Crumble up your cakes, mix them with pasturised horse poo, allow it to all re-colonise and then case and fruit this. Plenty more nutrients so hearty flushes will follow.

A couple flushes doesn't make a cake SPENT.
Spent means... used up or exhausted.
yes you can case some cakes that have already flushed a few times.
yes you can spawn cakes that have flushed a few times...into a bulk substrate.
the more flushes a cake has already produced...the more likely it will be to contaminate when using it in the above mentioned ways.
