Ways to deal with depression * 1
    #23566355 - 08/22/16 03:39 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

I am currently right now in the most depressed state of my life and everyone here at my rehab knows it. I barely leave my room. People try to make conversation with me but I just don't care and am not interested in socializing with anyone. I just lay around all day and think. On top of being physically sick, It's mentally taking a toll on me. The married woman was behind all of this. How catastrophic my life became when she left. Or basically when I even started messing with her. It's been 6 months since it happened and I still dream about her.. I cried this morning looking at her pictures. I have been talking to her every now and then but she doesn't talk much to me. I've pretty much given up hope that i'll ever be with her.. I often don't wanna get out of bed in the mornings.

I feel really hopeless. I just want Debbie back. Being with her was the happiest time of my life. I think I would actually faint if I seen her again in my life..

For me the most effective and best treatment for depression is S adenosyl methionine.

The science on ketamine for depression is gaining massive traction.

Exercise is the most important thing of all though. Hard exercise and lots of it, every day.

trying meditating.

if that didn't work, try onanism, as an alternative. then get out of bed, and work on yourself, and stop worrying about other people.

^ this is true. dehydration plays a role in depression and pain. cutting out caffeine would probably be good for OP, too.

then use some low strength booster like weed (and get your fluid intake to meet) and work on getting your strength back up to par. leaning on someone too much is obviously a dumb idea.

your brain is wired shut from the dopamine. you need someone to cuddle with and someone to sap on, and make you feel important. then you'll get your appeal in things back...until you get upset with eachother, then it all gets put on the line; until eventually she leaves, again...and you wonder why....

Just get out of that mindset. It's going to be hard to motivate yourself to do much of anything right now, so it's going to take a bit of force at first. If it's just girls then find another one. It doesn't have to be the love of your life, but proving to yourself you can will probably make shit easier. If there are other problems (minus getting off the drugs) then work on those, too.

Op, seriously take a step back, open your palm, then firmly slap yourself in the face every single time you feel depressed. Repeat until you realize that YOU FUCKING EXIST. You have the oppertunity to experience life. And on top of that you have a mind that goes inward indefinitely, so do some soul searching before you fall off the deep end.

I told you a while ago you can't change your life until you change your perspective on life. You have to change YOU and you need to change how you think about things. You DO have control of your thoughts, it just takes practice and work. You can choose to think about and appreciate better things. I'm sure at least one of your visits to rehab has taught you that.

Do not focus on the things that make you miserable. Put your energy into appreciating things that don't. There are a thousand little things that seem alot bigger in the scheme of life when you add them up. And the more you add up the more blessed you begin to feel, the more grateful you begin to feel.
http://www.brilliantlivinghq.com/15-ways-to-practice-the-art-of-appreciation/

Once you learn to do this, and I mean really do it on a daily basis it will change your life. Trust me. This is the real reason I haven't blown my brains out yet.

Try it. Try it daily. And when you get sick of it try it some more. And when you can't stand it anymore try it in a different way. You can be happier. I know you can.

EDIT: and on the last posters' note, appreciate the fact that you have a life to do with what you will. That you can make it better. Even if it's hard as a bitch. You still have the opportunity to enjoy life.

I resent that lately.

Your mind will always think of thoughts to justify being depressed.

So work the fuck out until your mind shuts the hell up.

In my experience It is Almost impossible for someone else to talk you out of depression or to think your way out of it .

But after 30 minutes punching a heavy bag, not only do you no longer feel depressed , you suddenly feel WONDERFUL. Happy, calm, peaceful, pleasure.

Exercise = endorphins. Endorphins = pleasure .

The answer to depression is 80% endorphins IME.

My brother has been depressed all his life and goes to therapy every week .

I share his propensity for depression . Yet while I have never done therapy, he never picked up the habit of exercise.

Comparing us now, it's pretty clear my strategy has worked better.

Which is not to say therapy Isn't a great idea, it is.

But I firmly believe without regular daily exercise, depression is inevitable.

Your body is made to work, to fight, to dance, to move.

If you keep a dog in a tiny cage it will be depressed .

When you sit in a chair or on a couch all day every day, your body is like that dog in a cage.

Until you let your dog out to play , your mind will be trapped inside it in misery.

To use the body is pleasure.

There is no question, but exercise is still the answer.

If you never suffered then what makes anything good?

I mean, life is full of ups and downs.

If there are no downs there are no ups - it's just flat.

Relationship stuff can hurt but soon you'll mee T someone else to be intimate with and wonder why you ever cared so much in the first place when you were obviously just fine before she came into your life.

Endorphins are pain-relieve, not pleasure release.

there is more than one way to deal with depression.

Flat is where the pain is
The pain is when life is flat and cannot be bent
I can relate to JFT

I very much feel like a prisoner of my own head
Moonshoe you're right that working out helps, temporarily, but ultimately there's more to the equation and getting the chips in a row to find some semblance of meaning in life is not always a clear path.

You probably aren't going to feel better until more productive time has past. Read a good book if you are allowed to read anything besides the 12 step book. Exercise is an immediate relief. I've never seen anyone in rehab actually happy besides the manic state clarity can bring to people who were in a constantly bad way before rehab. They would swing back and forth between that and self defeatist loathing, which the program would take advantage of to try and 12 step em forever.

Just be open to the idea that you will always be the same but that you are capable of living a centered meaningful life. You can make life changing decisions but you will always be yourself.

More importantly I'd quit asking the Internet for advice. Seems you set into motion events that you deep down you know you have to see fulfilled. Work on seeing that through and you will probably feel better.

Endorphins are the body's natural opiates .  Like heroin , they both relieve pain and produce pleasure.

This is why people talk about a runner's high and why people feel euphoric after a good workout .

Dopamine is also part of it (the feeling of achievement ) but endorphins are what give you the bodily euphoria .

euphoria most likely comes from Dopamine. pain relief, ie, relaxation, comes from the Endorphins, which aren't natural creators of pleasure, they simply block pain. it's the dopamine you're looking for. it's what everyone is looking for. it's why anyone does anything. dopamine.

but you were close, i'll grant you that.

your brain is wired shut from the dopamine. you need someone to cuddle with and someone to sap on, and make you feel important. then you'll get your appeal in things back...until you get upset with eachother, then it all gets put on the line; until eventually she leaves, again...and you wonder why....

because dopamine is everything. all reward and stimulation is based on the dopaminergic response.

just agree with me, so i can get that almighty boost i need; and so i don't have to explain any further, the most obvious thing...that it's not Endorphins that cause the euphoria...it's the dopamine. the Endorphins of course, help create a Dopamine response themselves, along with other neurotransmitters such as Phenethylamine.

the studies that allow that Endorphins are the cause of the "runner's high" are misleading, because it's the Endorphins that lead to a boost in signalling to other receptor sites, with other such stimulative chemicals, leading to the raise in Dopamine, leading to the feeling of accomplishment, feel-good, and euphoria, along with everything else. the Endorphins are merely a response to you running and straining your body. there is no response for Endorphins to 'kick in' to get you high...that's Dopamine that does that, the Endorphins just help push things along, and makes your bodily less stimulated by pain and more by that "rush".

i just said the same thing like three times. i hope it sinks in and i don't get a wikipedia link in reply.

No any doctor who recommended hypnosis fucking run.

My best advice is for you to see a therapist regularly. Take it seriously keep your appointments and after a few sessions they might recommend medication. Just give it a try. Working out will help . Yoga but I prefer Thia Chi .walks in nature and maybe even day groups. Keep your head up buddy.

I don't think anyone is hopeless unless you just don't want to work on yourself.
Hopelessness can be as dangerous as blinding optimism. It cuts both ways. I firmly believe that the power to overcome anything is within everyone.

I've seen people come back from the brink, it takes time and work . I would be lying if I said everything would be fine and dandy. But you can use the experience to grow. Things can happen that will change any person. It's up to you what you do with it.

I feel really hopeless. I just want Debbie back. Being with her was the happiest time of my life. I think I would actually faint if I seen her again in my life..

You give her your power by making your happiness dependent on her (or anyone/anything else for that matter). Take it back by letting go of blame and owning your feelings.

On a practical level - meditation, yoga, mantra/prayer, exercise....:hippie::peace:

very sorry to hear ur having to experience this stuff. I've been in a pretty severe depression for the past three years now, though instinct tells me the light at the end of the tunnel is thankfully pretty close though.

When u sink into depression due to the loss of a person in your life---- fuck that shits rough, and for some of us, rough isnt even close to the appropriate descriptor.
Combine that w/ addiction, or any self-harm type coping mechanism, and we'll sink to depths emotionally that are literally unfathomable to the average person; terrifying darkness.

Sorry i  dont have any legit advice on this topic, although i promise if i was able, id hand you a magical pill that completely erases every single form of pain, and also makes all your wishes and yearnings true like a genie.

just dont kill yourself, and time will ride you through this.

GOD DAMMIT GET A HOLD OF YOURSELF !!

unless you have a problem with authority.  In that case,

I'm sorry to hear about your suffering and I want to offer you a few points to consider.

changing the way you think is the only way out of depression.  Drugs DO NOT accomplish this, they only make it more likely-- with side-effects and WDs.  This is why ongoing therapy works concurrently with drugs.  You know, group sessions, private sessions... whatever.  Important for you to know- drugs are not the answer (regardless of what your professional told you) they can help but also they can enslave and harm... even the ones the doctor says are perfectly safe and have been used for years.  Chances are he did NOT use them for years himself to be sure of what he tells you.

So I will write a short, to try and help you change your thought process.

To change your thought process you will need to face some pretty stark realities and I'm afraid I can not candy coat it for you, some medicine must be bitter or it will not be effective.

you come into this world alone.  Your mother creates a safe place for you until the time your nervous system is capable of sustaining your life force in situ.  At which point you emerge from her safe place alone.  even twins go one at a time... emerging alone.

So you come into the world alone.  You know what?  You also go out of this world alone too.  Even if you aren't by yourself when you die, you still go out alone.  Nobody else is able to die for you, regardless of the stories and compelling arguments people might make.  You are born and you die, alone.  Fucking happy thought, I know.  This is part of life.  You can't change it by much.

"what's the fucking point of that sorry shit?"  You might be well to ask such a question because "the idea of being alone isn't really making me happy..."  well the point is, while nobody can be born or die for you, likewise, nobody can "make you" be happy.  That is on you.  The drugs just make you goofy or help you sleep by regulating neuro-chemicals... they won't force you to move on or get over whatever is bugging you.  That's your burden, and it takes time.

try thinking about the instance where the thing a person believes is the best thing that can happen actually turns out to be the worst thing in the world... like winning the lottery.  Statistaically, people who win big in the lotto will divorce, lose family, destroy their health, etc etc, and usually wind up broke and lonely.  Same thing goes opposite though, say your car got totaled by a hit and run driver while it was parked... worst thing... then over the course of 2 months you get your bicycle legs back, shed 20lbs, increase muscle tone, and begin eating more healthy foods... not really the worst thing.  Right?  Maybe the car wasn't so good after all?

Nobody can tell you what you are experiencing except for you, and so for your own good Try to look at things a little different.
\

hope you feel better

:brucelee:

PS-- get the "I can't" or "it's too hard" thoughts out of your head.  That is a trap you put yourself in.

Hypnosis is the use of affirmation, relaxation, and mental suggestion to achieve a certain result. From what I understand, it's more effective in helping one remember something that's been repressed or consciously forgotten than causing one to forget something. The more effective way to break from the Christian concept of god is to stop observing it altogether, whether that observation is through prayer, through praise, or even through anger and spite.

There has to be a realization that depending on prayer for results will not achieve results. It's only through being and doing under one's own steam that results are achieved. God doesn't help those who help themselves, people who help themselves do.

That's just my take on it and I could be completely off-base, but the way I look at it is this: if a person doesn't believe in god, then there's nothing to forget and there's no reason to blame a god that isn't there for anything.

God is not a concept, it's an eternal, unchanging reality of Divine Unification between all things, all is God at work here. You just need a deep, spiritual experience. If you can't mediate, yet are mentally stable, take a leap of faith (high entheogenic dose with a trusted sitter) to reunite with your Higher Self that's within all of us, it's the universal source of consciousness and it's principle is Love. It's here now, we just have be receptive to it, to choose to tune into that frequency if we want to benefit from it. It all starts out with our attitude&perception towards these things (all things) that eventually manifest our current, present, unshakable Reality. Language creates reality, but energy flows to thoughts beforehand. So be aware of your vibration, you can adjust it if you want and/or God is willing. OM on amigo <3
