P.tasmaniana up to 40mm across cap in this group shot.

P.alutacea 25mm across cap.

Some P.papuana in this habitat shot were exceeding 20mm maybe 25mm max across cap.

Thanks Hashed and Fractaliopsybe. Getting a bit of rain tonight. Was very dry again so its welcome. Might be some P.alutacea around by Wednesday. Hope so because it would be a change for me to post something current rather than old photos.

Its worth a go Bagels. Inski was saying conditions haven't been favourable for P.alutacea but that would be Auckland. They fruit here any time of the year so far. I haven't looked for them anywhere else but can't imagine that they wouldn't be around. Hope you find them. Best to look during or just after rain because they dry out very fast once the sun is out.

However at your latitude you wouldn't have that problem because there wouldn't be much bite to the sun this time of the year.

I read something by Adden today saying another 6wks to go. So October you'd be finding P.cyanescens NothingsChanged?

Thanks for the tips. I think it's worth having a look even if it is just for suitable places to hunt. There are a lot of horses around here.

Do you get Panaeolus cinctulus in NZ? I've only found them around cow manure here. In Europe and USA they find them around and on horse manure from threads I've read in the ID forum.

Yes we do have P. Cinctulus here. I don't know if they are not common or people just don't hunt for them. I am confident I have found them once and they were growing in an area that is grazed by cows. I found them in the spring autumn. I was new to hunting and they were mixed up with a lot of LBM's I collected that day so I only have photos. No spore print.

Its interesting seeing the libs on the NZ season thread. At your latitude P.semilanceata could be a real possibility as well. You guys sure have a lot of different psilocybin mushrooms.

I'm next door to 300 acres of state forest they are going to log next year. Pity but all the new places for me to search in there after logging will prove very rewarding for active species I think.:mushroom2:

Some of the photos of P.makarorae show them as blue all over. Maybe they were late in the season pics when the temps were low.

They were found right at the very start of the season.

Here's a pic from an ID thread called Unknown Auckland Psilocybe Species ID Please by Pinnacle dated 06/18/15.

These were the ones that looked so pretty.

Those are Psilocybe makarorae, they are completely hygrophanous in that image.

Another great Thread. October for P.cyanescens? Yes. Can't recall a Halloween with out. I secretly wish for a late season every year. I get a kick out of all the stress, drama, panic and conspiracy theories that are abound in the PNW threads.

Far out Inski, those P.makarorae look like some exotic Mexican species with those caps like that.
The thread with those pale blue P.makarorae was saying that they were stronger than P.subaeruginosa and more visual. I'll have to remember to include the word hygrophanous in my vocabulary. I'm good at finding mushrooms but my descriptions of them are pretty limited unfortunately. I have the worst retentive memory for words. Can be told someones name over and over and then forget it.

Thanks NothingsChanged, same here with the P.subaeruginosa. If they aren't around here by the beginning of April I'm wondering whats happened. Sydney I wouldn't find them until the end of April/beginning of May. Pineforests out Oberon they would start as early as late February some years. That was in shady gullies facing South away from the sun.

I had a look at the container full of horse manure that I'd let dry out. Lo and behold a little bunch of P.alutacea had rehydrated from shrivelled up things since last nights rain.
