Lexapro and anxiety relapse ADVICE PLEASE!

Hey everyone,
Im here posting because I'm having what feels like a major "relapse" of extreme anxiety/depression/impending doom after experiencing initial relief from 10mg of lexapro (been taking it for approximately 20 days now).
I had a really bad trip a few months ago and have been documenting my progress with recovery after experiencing extreme anxiety and depression post trip in my journal if you want some more background info.
I just want some advice if anyone has any to give.
Is it normal to experience a 'relapse' 20 days into treatment? I experienced relief within the first week of taking it. Does this mean the medicine isn't actually working? Should I increase the dosage (I know, I will consult my doctor, just after opinions).
I was feeling so great, I didn't have any anxiety, I was hopeful about the future, could see the positive side in things, now BOOM, negativity to the max.
What should I do? I almost feel betrayed by this stupid medication, how dare it give me a glimmer of hope and relief and then take it away
Peace.

Then it is strange , i had a rebounce when leaving Lorazepam Tavor and Rispedal .
I dont know how i can help you but try minimizing the dose with the docs slowly and see how you feel.
I feel better now with my 1 pill a day than before taking 3-4 .
Best Luck

Lexapro fucked my ass because I was finally willing to give SSRI's a chance. 7 months on it, then I went off it cold turkey because it wasn't helping my anxiety, made me feel like a zombie. The withdrawals lasted 2-3 weeks of brain zaps and general misery. That is my only personal input I can give. Don't think I would touch another SSRI again.
It won't fix it magically by itself, you have to go to therapy or groups along with taking it and abstaining from other drugs for the most part if you want positive effects. The relapse you are referring to is called being human.

Yes, I experienced similar tolerance development on several antidepressants. I would suggest you look into wellibutron because that is currently working well for me with no side effects, although to be honest I did have minor hand tremors for a couple months. The best way to deal with anxiety is to directly face what makes you anxious. Things like Xanax just make you complacent which makes you not care which makes problems worse in general because you don't work towards resolving the source of the anxiety. Just my experience.

Ssris don't really work the first week, so what you were feeling was a placebo affect.
With that in mind..perhaps you don't need an ssri? Maybe do some cbt therapy instead?

Echo this. SSRIs take 3-4 weeks to work, and often dose needs adjusting by that time.
I was warned by a doc when I started lexapro that I would likely feel worse by the 3rd week and should improve by the 4th, so prehaps keep that in mind OP.
Lexapro may also not be the drug that suits you. Cymbalta worked best for me, when I was on anti-depressants, after trying just about all of them.
I strongly encourage cbt and dbt was a life changer for me. Really gave me a boost in confidence and a new coping skills.

Definitely talk to your doctor about it. You don't want to cold turkey off it and it can take time to start working as others have said. Additionally it might take more work and effort on both you and your doctors part trying different medications until you find the right 'fit' for whatever the root cause of your issue is.
What works for one person does not always work for another, especially when it comes to things like anti depressants. My mom takes wellbutrien. It works great for her. When I tried it to quit smoking (its the same as zyban) it cause me to have massssiiiveee anxiety attacks, and eventually a seizure. At one point she tried effexor and had some really rough times on it.
Talk to your doctor before making any decisions or making any changes, and give it some time!
