Pick two, one is hard enough What do you think was the largest concept, technology, or development that will have influence over our future development as a species ?

The Internet seems destined to win
I'm curious as to why you chose genetics? Are you looking it at primarily as a food supply augmentation of the whole gamut of what we may do with humans in the future?
I chose the atomic bomb as I feel it essentially changed how wars are fought indefinitely lest we all die in a fiery blaze. Superpowers can no longer wage total war on one another, we fight surgically and through proxy countries.

All of it. If it's possible to alter genetics in humans, then I think humans are most likely going to do it eventually. Might not be soon so it wouldn't be the most recent driver of evolution, but you did mention "concept" as an option too.

I picked Internet and VR.
I'm surprised nobody has picked VR, yet. I feel like the possibilities are endless for humans to experience the world in new and different ways through VR models. It could have awesome implications for education and research and greatly benefit the scientific literacy of future generations as it could make complex theoretical abstractions more readily available to intuitive comprehension.
I wanted to pick renewable energy as well, because that has the potential to become a huge social and economic driver in the near future. But, I don't think that people will actually change that much in the process of making the transition to renewable energy sources. We're just going to keep doing what we're doing with fossil fuels until we develop good enough technology to keep doing the same shit through renewable energy sources.

If it's possible, human level artificial intellegence will quickly be surpassed by superhuman AI, and then further increases towards a being we can't even begin to fathom. Let's just how that they want to play nice when they get here.
Renewable energy has the potential to become extremely cheap. Free even, like 50s Americans were promised would be here by the new millennium. After free energy comes a post scarcity economy and utopia.... ah, if only I could see it.

The internet has allowed us to learn new things faster, sharing ideas among ourselves helps to further advance our ability to teach others capable of creating new ideas and all.
Genetic engineering is intrinsically playing with evolution as darwin knew it, so this cannot be discounted or excluded one bit. With new and emerging technologies, we will be able to manipulate CRISPR, allowing us to edit our own genome, ridding ourselves of genetic disorders like predispositions to cancer, neurofibromatosis, multiple sclerosis, schizophrenia, and likely even Autism. These genetic changes will carry on as well through our offspring.

I can The ice cream truck in my neighborhood used to be like a pimped out legitimate truck, with a relatively sane person behind the wheel selling a good variety of tasty treats. That's back when kids went outside, and actually bought ice cream and shit.
The ice cream truck I see today is a beat up pickup that slowly creeps around the neighborhood chiming a rusty bell and selling some off brand vanilla garbage w a styrofoam plate as a cone. It's manned by an escaped convict and or dope dealer. It's cause no one is outside to buy his shit

Or maybe the demographics of the area have changed for other reasons. Probably the area has deteriorated economically, and parents have moved and taken their children to nicer neighborhoods.
What about Pokemon Go, huh? How does that figure into your apocalyptic lazy-fatass vision of our collective future?

Are you seriously trying to support that stance though? The Internet is quite clearly deteriorating general health.
I was playing at first but now I just think you're crazy. You cite Pokemon go as an example of Internet induced fitness? Before the fucking Internet people didn't need a virtual game to go outside. And how active is a kid walking around staring at his phone? Outside or not.
I can't believe you're actually trying to defend that position. Like I said I was kidding to begin with but you've lost the plot entirely

If you can't prove it with cold hard facts,

You know, there was such a thing as "books" and "periodicals" which existed long before the Internet, there's no limit to how much time you can kill sitting inside with one of those things. They're a damn menace, I tell you.

The internet is better for the mind than TV has been in all these decades since the invention of television. Requires more mental activity to use. Kids still play outside, in child friendly neighbourhoods.
An over abundance of sugar can be blamed for most health consequences of the past few decades, before internet.
I don't think the internet is deteriorating health, but it is rapidly deteriorating culture itself and replacing it with new types of cultural norms faster than generations can keep up with.

Renewable energy is a good one. It's a geopolitical issue with the potential for changing the world order. If anything would bring "world peace" it would be RE. It could make the bulk of our military useless eventually. Improved health for the planet, reducing the power of the medical/industrial complex, etc..

What 2 did you pick?
I didnt because its a bad poll, not enough choices imo. Technology in general is incredibly vast and the kind of research that is on going isn't truly reflected here in the most honest way possible. You have to cover every facet of the industry if you're going to ask this type of question, else you're just looking at it through buzz words thus not actually discussing anything but merely empty "hot topics" with the theme of tech behind it. But I'll entertain it nonetheless, just cause you asked.
The WWW & Genetic engineering
But VR will have a dramatic effect on our social lives as time passes. Smart phones will continue to play a crucial role in our society as well in terms of applying these other technologies. So just choosing two is a bit too simplified imo.

That's kind of the point though is it not? Find the two that you predict will have the BIGGEST impact?

I'll have to get with you next time I drop some fire. I guess the only surviving pic I have is a particularly gruesome but not do impressive picture of an indigestion dump with major fracturing and a flaky texture. The overall length was impressive but I'm ashamed of the segmenting
A good deuce should be a solid piece.

My prize dump that I sadly lost the picture of had to have been unmeasurable in courics. I had a toilet paper floater for scale and it just dwarfed it. Fortunately the huge toilet accomodated all of the brown behemoth comfortably, fully showcasing the beautifully tapered ends and the bulging middle.
it was well over a foot long and probably a good four inches in diameter with a rich brown tone, pungent but nonoffensive aroma. Sadly IBS has made token shits a rare thing these days

What about Pokemon Go, huh? How does that figure into your apocalyptic lazy-fatass vision of our collective future?
It took Pokemon Go to get a bunch of ADULTS out of their fucking houses I was only born in '91, and someone as young as me can remember how much more often it was that you'd see kids playing outside and getting exercise.

I just don't buy it there's no evidence to back it up, and before the Internet, there was TV and books. I think you and that other dude are misattributing regional demographic changes to new technology. It's nothing new, major tech trends are always met with superstitious fear.

TV/ media and the internet without a doubt. Both blew previous information sharing methods out of the water and have allowed for countless new developments.

Yeah sugar has definitely been worse for health in general than the Internet. But seriously, I have a lot of young cousins, and there's been so many times when I've tried to hang out with them and go long boarding, play some basketball, hike, whatever..just to get a response that goes something like "sorry, gotta get my K/D ratio up" or they'll just be surfing YouTube videos for hours.

I don't think everything has to have numbers attached to it to be able to be seen as truth to a lot of people. Believe what ya want of course, but ask any senior citizen, or just anyone who went through their childhood before technology was so prevalent, what the average child looked like. They will most likely all agree that there weren't so many boys with tits. And it hardly has much to do with junk food with these older people because they had lots of sugary foods back then too.

Sugary food 50-100 years ago did not have nearly as much crap in it as most does these days so I would argue there is a big difference there.
No doubt diet and exercise have both played big roles in the culmination of the current state of things

You're right about that. But, all these extra additives found in food these days that can contribute to poor health are still a result of technology in their own right

That's true but many of them are byproducts that only end up in "food" becouse of greed.
Technology is also responsible for the opposite via vitamins and legitimate health products though.

those engines that will soon be able to move humans instantaneously with no motion; those will be the biggest thing since sliced bread. that and dyson spheres.
but of those that currently exist, genetic engineering is a close second, but carbon fibers and modern synthetics is the ne plus ultra driver of the evolution of the human race.
with synthetic materials we'll be able to do more than grow new limbs. we'll be able to have no limbs.

Coming on 33. But I've always been older than my years; I'm ALWAYS the youngest in any group I hangout with. By 22 years at my last festival. Between 4 -> 40 years younger than my best friends.
