For the woodworkers

What do you do with all your scrap wood? I mean the small pieces, stuff like 1x1 inch cubes, 1 inch triangles, 1/4 x 1 inch strips, stuff like that.. All the really small stuff, I toss. Pencil thin strips, tiny corners, small slices, etc.. The larger stuff I just stack away because I know I'll find use for it at some point but right now all my smaller stuff is really beginning to pile up and I'm not sure what to do with it . I can't bring myself to just throw it away and waste it, I wanna find a practical use for it. Right now it's mostly just pine scrap but my hardwood scraps are starting to build up now as well.

I do find uses for some of it but not really enough to put a dent in it, I always end up with more than I started with when I start incorporating it into some kind of project. Like the long thin strips are good for stickers for stacking my fresh sawn boards that are being air dried but that only takes a fraction of what I have.

I was thinking about maybe spending a day surfacing all the various faces of this stuff and gluing it all up to build up what you could actually call a board, but that seems like it wouldn't really be worth the effort or glue for that matter. It would be easier to incorporate something like that into a project than just a bunch of random small pieces but it's uses would be pretty limited, I don't think you'd want to use it on anything structural.

Anyone here actually manage to use up all this extra scrap or is everyone like me with buckets full of wood scrap?

Set fire to it, Make charcoal or ash. Use charcoal for charcoaley stuff. Use ash to add into a garden.

Buy a nice woodchipper machine thing and turn it into chips and use for smoking food, or rehydrate the chips and grow some mushrooms, maybe start outdoor beds. Woodchip it and you could use it in a compost pile. woodchip it and use it as mulch. I dont know what size woodchippers would turn it into to, but It may work.

I don't really do gardening anymore so don't have use for compost or mulch. I don't currently have a grill or I'd already be using it for that. I live in Texas so there's not much need for heating anything. It's only "cold" for a few months and those months are cherished.

I knew/know it's a long shot but thought it was worth asking if anyone had figured out any genius way to turn the scrap back into larger stuff. Or any non-conventional uses people have found for it.

you could do intarsia with most of your small scrap.
with your super small stuff you could make jewelry, earrings, necklaces, etc.

Theyre useful for starting fire especially if you have a fireplace.

I was once at a techno music establishment and they had a really nice wall behind the DJs. It looked like the whole wall was consisting of neatly stacked timbers, but they actually were just little, differently sized wooden cubes of different colors and types glued together.

Choose a boring wall in your home and do the same. Cut them to a length varying between 0,5 and a few inches by chance and add new ones whenever they are left over.
Gives the room a nice, warm color and a pleasant and a pleasant smell.

That might actually be a good idea. I could do that in my shop area actually and just build it up over time.

I'd feel honored if you did and posted a picture afterwards.

Though I'd choose a room I get comfy in, often. It exhibits some kind of calm and soothing atmosphere, really cozy.
Wish I had a place I'd be sure if staying in for more than a few years. Then I'd do stuff like that. I bet the ladies love that one.
