Do slugs hate light or just sunlight and heat?

They fucking shot up as they do. I was curious if I kept a light on at night on my bed would it deter them? Or is it the heat they don't like. Hate these little fuckers. They are really bad this year

Been dealing with them for years and the only way that I've found to get away from them is to build elevated bed stands or use planter pots that are several feet off the ground. They are strange and annoying creatures that can wipe out ground beds in hours. Diatomaceous earth works some but when they want in its like pissing into the wind. Beer traps are hit and miss too. Oddly enough if you squish some types in your fingers you will notice a mild burning sensation. I don't think that light will change their behaviour much.

Nope and it's all useless after rain.. Prime time for the fruits. They seem to be more RH and moisture driven. Which is why they go after the fruits so fast..especially the caps. They get midnight munchies I suppose. They usually disappear within the first hour of sunrise and show up an hour after sundown. Heavily wooded areas with lots of logs close by are worse areas IME. Always clear out the spots of decomposing wood around the beds that are in those areas as well.
Has anyone tried putting a rock salt/sand perimeter around beds? Far enough away so it doesn't drain off into the beds of course. Just an idea

Yep. That's my problem. I have old wood piles with tons of old bark that flaked off over the years and it would be an incredible undertaking to get rid of. Like, I would need a tractor. I'm just about giving up on my outdoor beds this summer. So much time, work, energy, money invested for just about nothing. Time to start my tubs again. Just I've had good results in years past outside. This summer been so hot and I don't know. Just bad season. Worst ever. And finally getting fruits but slugs relentless. I'm kind of over it.

Sucks on outdoor grows that you've spent a lot of extra prep work on...just to be munched down by slugs, ants, and arthropods. Disappointing to say the least. That's why I stopped doing them and switched to elevated grows. You can spray pesticide around the bases of the elevated beds and not worry about it reaching the edibles. There's a lot of thick woods, fallen trees, and wood piles here too. Even vegetables and herbs got the lift kit after many fails. Just saying don't give up. Learn and adapt!
