Please rate my SGFC :)

Hello there, new cultivator here! I may have gotten a little trigger happy, but let me know, and I can tape up some holes.. Is this looking alright? The hygrometer is in there, but the back of is facing out, i might stand it right inside. I just put the hygrometer in there, so it saying 60% I'm sure it's on the rise... But if it isn't that is why Im now questioning if I have too many holes.. I mist 3 - 4 times a day, and fan 6 - 7 times a day.

Thank you for your advice/opinions !

you'd win, if you'd put some more perlite in there. otherwise, good job

- 5-6 inches of perlite. - Hygrometer is un-necessary. - Do not mist a certain amount of times a day, click the link for the answer. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21595437#21595437 - Fanning is un-necessary.
Holes should be drilled with a 1/4" drill bit and 2x2" grid pattern along all 6 faces of the tote.

More Perlite, got it. Should I go do that now? or is it too much of a disruption to remove the cakes, add more, put em back
I'm sorry did he say fanning is un-necessary?? Please elaborate, because no one has said not to fan

Any time you mist you have 99% humidity on the surface where it matters so mist as needed and forget the hygrometer...get the perlite in now.

Yes, Hashed said fanning in un-necessary.
Elaboration, righto, just don't do it.
Fanning is pointless because the holes in the SGFC, fanning does not do shit.

I find that fanning my substrates during the first few days of fruiting conditions helps trigger a better flush than set and forget methods, even when tweaked to allow very high FAE. I feel the influx of fresh air is very stimulating to the biomass. You can never have enough fresh air, as long as your humidity and moisture content is maintained at the correct levels.

Wrong...Fanning isn't about FAE. ...

It's still unnecessary either way you look at it though. Beneficial for some, perhaps. Required for any? Nah.

Yeah, cron, ofc I know that, it's a common misconception for noobs that "Fanning = FAE". I been on the pipe, can't be fucked elaborating further than "that's what the holes are for" I'm afraid.

Not needed but does nothing bUT good...it gets rid of the old stale humid air to make room for good evaporation to take place.

unless you get to giving 'er wind burn. Just don't get too gung ho with the fanning. That's why it's typically advised against.

I guess side by side trialing is the only way to know for certain, if fanning is doing anything for you or not.

Side by side to determine if the 5 second step is worth your mere 5 seconds at a time or not. Hashed is on the pipe hard.

lol, No worries guys! I will not fan then, as long as those holes are sufficient for evaporation which it sounds like you guys think it is. I will add more perlite and lots of love. I am hoping to see some pinning within a few days ?? There was no invitro pinning upon birth
The thing that I am going to have to learn through experience is how glistened, glistening is lol. Like, the verm barrier isn't reflecting light after a good mist session, but it isn't pooling either, I'm keeping them damp. But because I have a few more holes than usual, and less than ideal perlite (till tomorrow) perhaps I will have to mist more, more often for the time being?

That's cool. For your future reference, if you get invirto pins, leave them on the cake and dunk and roll with the invirto pins on, they will still grow full sized if that happens and you leave them on the cake.

Apparently the community goes back and forth on what it thinks is necessary but you can fan if you want to I guess. I just never saw better results from fanning, and it seemed like a waste of time, so I stopped doing it. I don't go through the trouble to get moisture content right and dial in my fruiting chamber just right so that I can open the tub all the time and fan it out. I also don't use a SGFC so

Fine beads of water all over the substrate, like dew on a spiders web, when they evaporate, re-mist, so simple you could hire a kindergartner to do it for you.

ok so you don't use a SGFC when you grow from cakes? or you don't grow cakes therefore you don't use a SGFC? I ask because all the info I have been getting from the board is to always use a SGFC for PK grows...

I don't grow cakes so I don't use a SGFC is what I meant. I just know how they work due to learning about them when I started and there being great resources about it here.
