I say anyone with some decent experience should give the impossible a shot. But keep the expectations low. It's also important that such a person have a solid grounding in cultivation to be able to notice any vectors that could have led to success. If for example it turns out thigtropism is important to creating a pinning response it could easily be overlooked by a novice.

Learn to walk before flying. Grow some cubes. Get used to what mushrooms need. Their lifecycle. Culturing practice. How to recognise when things are wrong. Its not going to be exactly the same cause every species has its own quirks but you need some experience under your belt.

It is the exact same in my country. You do have a choice, buy spores, it would be easier to grow Cyanescens outdoors than libs, easier than indoors too, hell it would probably be easier to grow cubes outdoors where you are than libs, I have seen it done in the UK.
Growing libs would be a huge achievement, with a pitiful yield even if it was regarded as an amazing yield. If you just want a dose the easiest thing to grow IMO is sclerotia/stones/"magic truffles"/truffles, and cubensis after that. You will see little or no guides on growing semis/libs, for good reason. Just like you will see no guides on growing some gourmet truffles, but will on other edibles.
As I said I guess you are after a dose. It would be like me saying I am feeling hungry, will I try growing cocoa beans and making chocolate bars, or growing some potatoes and making baked potatoes. Or trying to grow gourmet truffles, rather than easy to grow edible shrooms.

Well assuming you start with pf tek you will need a syringe. I suggest starting with one before attempting to make one.

+1, usually cheaper and hopefully cleaner than you would make.
I still would advise starting with sclerotia as it's more foolproof, but is more boring grow-wise. If buying from one of the long term sponsors if you buy a sclerotia/stone/truffle producing strain and mention you are a shroomery member they usually will throw in a random cube strain too, and any cubes they carry will do just fine. I will send a pm.

I want to do this as my next project, I know it won't be easy, and I'm by no means an expert.
I want to do an outdoor patch, start experimenting with spores on agar etc indoors and as they grow wild near me as well I figure cloning some wild fruit might be a starting point too. Something I've never done but I'll give it a shot
I imagine it would be immensely satisfying to succeed plus I love libs
I'll keep in touch, any advice always welcome

Libs by all accounts are fairly easy outside. Cron puts all his indoor attempts outside so they end producing in the end.

Hi Pasty!! Hi Cron!! :
Not started anything yet, I was thinking of doing it in a kind of self contained planter thing outside, putting grass in it to make it try and recreate where I found it.
I'll be starting on agar one way or another and from there it'll be either rye or possibly brf as it seems to be recommended here. I wonder if I could colonise coir and then mix it in to the planter outdoors? Hmmm possibilities....
Either way I need to get spores first as I won't be able to get wild fruit until the Autumn
Might have to hit you up for some info Cron if you've had good success

I reckon as long as you make sure to take into account that they are saprotrophic then it shouldn't be impossible. Along with ensuring correct temperature, Soils pH, Good drainage and strong nutrients.

I’m interested in the challenge and not afraid of failure so I’ve been thinking about what it would take to try an indoor cultivation of liberty caps. I’ve seen people get to the point of successfully colonized substrate but only a couple skilled individuals have managed to get even one mushroom to show . I was thinking , I haven’t seen anybody do a lawn in a box , maybe ,the organism likes pasture so we need to plant a little lawn or case it with some sort of sod or live grass of some kind. Just theoretical and hypothetical if anybody’s got any ideas or wants to pick a part mine please sound off. I will drill holes in the bottom of a big tub and fill it with a couple inches of coarse perlite or gravel on top of that a piece of cardboard then a bunch of colonize substrate maybe a thin layer of earth worm casings and vermiculite then some grass seed and light and water to get a nice little lawn over the top of your substrate. Water it give it lots of light trim it maybe and hope for the best! So what do the trusted cultivators think? Anyone replying please be gentle my heart is on my sleeve here haha
