As promised, a look at another one of my 3rd flushes. I don't see many people posting anything beyond their 2nd flush...

And a look at how my casing looks before setting into fruiting conditions. Set it in here 2 days ago. I won't be using vermiculite in my casing again (or at least not as much). I think it tends to colonize too quick.

Did you see any pins? Here's a closer look with and without the flash on...

That's because no one who posts is actually getting to a third flush. It's like a shroomery-wide conspiracy... People who post about their third flushes get hunted down and questioned. Inocuole is the one that does the interrogations. He's not too sweet about it either. Run now. You've been warned...

That's funny, inoc has said he's gotten a fifth flush before
So many flushes can mean less than optimum conditions though.

With a heavy heart, I picked this evening as the starting point for some new projects... and - while rummaging through my wares - what do I find but a discarded AA+ plate germinating after 80 days of silence. Just a big, pearl-white expanse of mycelium staring right at me.
It was a more eerie experience than it appears now in print, but it left me with the impression that the mushroom knew I needed a little sign.
Good to have to you, and hopefully you're pics, back.

It was back when I was using coffee instead of vermiculite, so the mycelium had more nutrients. Now I'm trying this thing where I starve the fuck out of the mycelium to get it to go rhizomorphic and then presumably it colonizes faster, at the expense of a flush.

What's wrong with simply getting a healthy culture and letting the grain provide the nutes
I swear people make this waaaaay harder than it needs to be. Seriously get some solid genetics and let them do the work. All we as the cultivator need to do is ensure some clean media and decent fruiting conditions.

I've got a few dozen 6qt dubtubs pushing out their third flushes now. Getting multiple flushes is no myth and isn't difficult by any means. If you can't get to a third flush you're probably doing something wrong. Generally, I don't go past 2 flushes because the diminishing returns for the space required aren't worth it if I can have a fresh sub pumping out a first flush in its place by then. The only reason why these subs are still in fruiting is because the next round of sub and species isn't ready yet.

Hell I had a tub get to a 7th flush. But now I try to get it all in one. I see lots of second flushes provided there ain't 4 ft of snow on the ground outside. . .

Fuck flushes. Used to be a thing I thought was neat, not so much anymore. Nothing cool about having to watch the same tub for over a month, to babysit that last bit of BE out of it..

I feel like second flushes are definitely worth it though. I wouldn't blame anyone for throwing out a sub after that, but for the work that goes in beforehand if you aren't constantly making new projects multiple flushes are the way to go.
