I'm leaning towards Gymnopilus but Galerina also seems like a possibility

That's what I was thinking as well but the spore print seems to be too light for Galerina
None of them had a cortina veil either which Galerinas normally exhibit

This is an undescribed Gymnopilus species which happens to be inactive.

Hmm, interesting, I was wondering because I couldn't really identify it to any specific type of Gymnopilus. Thanks!

Actually those are not G. Liquiritiae. I thought the same thing when I found a bunch of them. They even bruise a purple color, but are not active. I sent them to be scoped by Gravaja, but never really heard back. His inital identification was an undescribed Gymnopilus sp. from the midwest and inactive.

These however, were not scoped, but were indeed identified as G. Liquiritiae by none other than Bloodworm. He knows his gyms.

Keep on looking OP. It is still early for Gym season but you are on the right track.
