    #23561828 - 08/21/16 12:19 AM (7 years, 6 months ago)

Netflix the movie Primer. Watch it. I need to talk to someone after watching this.

If you've seen it, help me out here.

Pat, please help me because I am drowning

Did they stumble onto some sort of supernatural renewable constant energy source, was their end goal to sell that after putting through testing and profit? What was going on with the doubles? Was it from the machine obviously?

They created a perpetual motion machine and were planning on using it to revolutionize energy. Possibly sell it to a corporation or the military or something (actually, I think they were planning on starting their own company with it). But they discovered that it has the property of reversing time as well, hence where the real plot starts.

The machine they build to travel back is slightly imperfect, as it doesn't send them to the exact spot in time. They are off by micro seconds every time they go back, and it's hard on their bodies to keep doing so.

They are untrusting of each other, and fear the other will try to kill them. So they literally end up in a constant loop where they are trying to prevent their own deaths, only to end up in a point in time where the other has already been there. The character Abe is slightly late each time, as Aaron has already set everything in place (if you watch the movie again, you'll notice he has an ear piece telling him what to say - this is so he can keep in cadence with the past). He's seen in a warehouse creating several machines in the end, unsure of what the goal is.

really weird I stumbled onto this thread. I haven't seen the movie yet, looks cool and defiantly going to watch now. I saw its weird because I just got done reading a thread on this site about CERN and the conspiracy around them including the Mandala conspiracy. Creepy stuff.

See I thought that.

The perpetual motion device was meant for energy, ripped holes in space time, turned into time travel. And in the end, Aaron leaves everything behind to his double? like his wife, his kids. Abe says don't come back because it will create a paradoxical situation

Right? I was intrigued, I just didn't know if I should be in love with this or if it tried way to hard to be confusing.

I'd say that's correct. I noticed that the movie made a lot more sense upon second viewing for myself. Like it wasn't trying to be confusing per se, so much as it wasn't giving away the plot too obviously. If it was an action movie for instance, you would have known that they were battling in time as a plot, and just seen them fight it out.

But the way this movie handled it was more vague, because it was more as if you were experiencing the mind fuck that was going through Abe's head as he slowly realized that he was too late, before the machine was even created, since Aaron had already went back in time that far and slowly set everything up in his favor. Abe shows him the time machine first, but in reality he already knew it existed even as he was showing him the doubles of themselves through the binoculars. He was merely acting dumb, whereas Abe was being genuine throughout the movie.

Uh, fuck I totally missed that sub plot. About 1 being sooner than the other. I will need to watch a second time to better understand that.

This movie makes me
:wat:

And then
:baseballfuck:

How do people get bored? Please answer me this. Life is so full of wonder - how can you ever get BORED with it???

--------------------
Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not.

It's full of wonder until you watched the last good thing to be uploaded on netflix. Then you just flip through the selection pretending you might end up wanting to watch something.you won't enjoy anything, even if you do settle and watch something

Primer was the biggest mindfuck of a movie I've ever watched, doubly so because I was told to watch it on MXE.  I watched it several times over a short period of time and learned more every time I did.  There is just so much information to try to make sense of.  It was a low budget masterpiece in my opinion and I absolutely LOVE that the creators didn't end up ruining it like all big budget movies of its kind seem to do by squeezing an insultingly obvious explanation of what happened into the plot at the end - as though we the audience are just a bunch of mentally retarded 6 year olds.  Had an explanation of that kind been added in to Primer, I doubt anyone would have even liked it.  I personally think that's why it rose to, and deserves, the cult classic status it has.

Looking up timeline graphs helped me quite a bit as there are too many timelines to keep track of in your head alone.  I watched it years ago so I don't remember which one I really liked, but these two look pretty good, especially the first one.  They both show just how fucking crazy and well thought out the movie actually was to make logical sense though.

Edit: Images way too big to post in thread so here's the links instead.

Those timelines are awesome. The first one goes deep and brings up stuff I've missed.
