SACRED MUSHROOM AND THE CROSS by JOHN ALLEGRO
    #23560939 - 08/20/16 07:08 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

this book published in 1970 is a very scholarly work by a very famous lecturer and philologist in old testament and inter-testamental studies and he is the author of many scholarly books including the dead sea scrolls which he translated alot of i believe. this book centers around the sumerian lanquage and the amanita muscaria. it is a 300 page book and is not easy to read. i have had it in my library for years. it is a study of the nature and origins of christianity within the fertililty cults of the ancient near east.:flyagaric::jah:

This book actually killed his academic career.. After this he became joke in those circles.. He was a archeologist, he researched Dead Sea Scrolls.. And book does indeed contain far too much speculations to be taken seriously..

Nonsense. Unless maybe if you like to believe in propaganda and find that more interesting!

Just like the bible was not intended to be interpreted literally, but rather metaphorically. But if we were to change the story to a mushroom? Metaphorically and symbolically it can fit and make a lot more sense to explain the true spiritual experience. Which is all the bible is suppose to be doing but the majority of people it destroys through beliefs and by taking things literally. The myths were never meant to be taken literally. And thats where the misunderstandings come from. Without experience people cannot understand or comprehend the truth.

hey berb this is interesting information. he was primarily a philologist it is my understanding and not an archaeologist but maybe i am wrong? it is also my understanding that he translated the dead sea scrolls and was the only fellow who could translate ancient sumerian, and that is what he does in this book, and he just tells you what these ancient sumerian documents say. may i ask you if you have read the book yourself?

It killed his career because the other two scholars were christian while he was agnostic and in those days propaganda ruled and anyone with differing idea's was destroyed. He was the only one who actually released his findings. All he was saying was the dead sea scrolls had more to do with sacred mushrooms than a story of a guy called jesus who once lived(or did he). Or is that just a metaphorical story with another meaning. Allegory, as he said. Ancient people were known to use psychedelic plants and mushrooms for a long time. The stories we are told of history are nothing but myths as well. If we want to know the truth we should look inside ourself and our own experiences. How about, psychedelics for instance... We should know by now that they are about consciousness growth and not ignorance...

dear siggy you have got good ratings. i almost moved to new zealand many years ago to grow mushrooms and work for some rich farmers there. i almost went. just in case you live there. anyhow siggy i am reading this book now once more again after many years and i never read it closely or completely. i can tell you one thing about john allegro and that is that he was a very bright fellow and he is a wonderful philologist and historian of ancient sumer. he explains in there how the archaeologists did not even know anything about sumer until the late nineteenth century as they could not translate the ancient sumerian lanquage that they kept finding with archaeological remnants along with other ancient lanquages like accadian. after they started finding stuff with just this sumerian lanquage they had to admit their was another earlier civilization other than accadian and some others. i am wanting to try to grow a. muscaria here and i am building facilities to try to do that and am wanting to order some too. i used to collect and eat them quite a bit in upstate ny. ethnobotany is a fascinating subject in human history and the a. muscaria in particular has a special place obviously. please stay in touch. ron kay:flyagaric::jah::breakthrough::acidfire:
