What are the hobbies you can't afford?

I have a shit-ton of hobbies. The only problem is, I can't afford any of them! It's cool though, cause I grow mushrooms. For cheap as fuck.

I've been playing the drums since I was six, but I don't have a set and wouldn't have a place to put them anyway. If I want to play in the house I'd have to spend 5000 on a good electronic one worthy of my skills

I went skydiving 4 times last year in one month and that was a grand. You do the math. It takes 25 jumps as an AFF student to get a license and them jump for 20 dollars at 10,000 ft. I mean, if you have your own gear which is easily 4-7,000 dollars.
Paintball gets up there too. At least 1,000 for a decent gun and enough practice to be worth a fuck.
Mountain climbing, skiing, strip clubs, etc... it all get's expensive. What are the hobbies you can't afford?

hobbies I have but can't afford: guitar, miniature wargaming (yup I'm 'one of those'), collecting cool and unusual books
hobbies I WOULD have if I could afford it: isolation tank meditation/tripping, gardening, designing ridiculous woodland structures to trip in and around, similar shenanigans

I only have two hobbies; drugs and motorbikes. I can afford them both.
But if I had to dream one up it would probably be snorting a line of pure cocaine from the inner thigh of a $1000 p/h hooker before skydiving out of my private jet, landing in a hot tub for of 50 more $1000 p/h hookers, stuffing my face into a mound of cocaine and inhaling deeply, and then detonating the bomb I left aboard my private jet.
That would never get old.

collecting knives. and lighters. used to do both but have sold most of em. i never really want to plop down $400 for something like that anymore. because i end up never taking it off the shelf for fear of damaging it in some way
i would also like to collect more (and nicer) tobacco pipes, but again, i'll rarely use them because they cost hundreds of dollars.
mostly just collecting stuff. the other hobbies i'm into (woodcrafting, reading, gaming, etc) are pretty affordable

I'd like to make skiing a hobby.

But...first I'd have to move up north. Then I'd have to take lessons. And then I'd have to buy all the ski gear.
It would be a pricey endeavor if I wanted to make it a legitimate hobby.

horseback riding. scuba diving - this is more if you don't have direct and easy access to good shore diving, because once you get certified and buy the equipment it doesn't eat money the same way boating and horses do.
too bad those are the two hobbies I grew up on . I still do both in moderation, the diving thing is mostly expensive because I'm landlocked so I'm confined to quarry diving, the north atlantic has a ton of wreck diving and I'm only 60 miles from the ocean, but you've got to pay money to have someone haul your ass out to the wrecks. I've been meaning to do more shore diving because NJ has a surprising amount of beach dives where you can access wrecks and artificial reefs, but I've gotta find a dive buddy or get my brother to commit, and at the moment I feel too out of practice to go exploring areas I don't know well on my own, even if they're shore dives - I've only done a handful of trips to a quarry I know really well this season and haven't been in open water since September.

It depends on the type of diving you're doing and the conditions, but recreational scuba diving can incredibly serene and while it has risks, it's quite safe if you're properly trained and you don't do anything too stupid - even so there's a lot of really reckless divers out there who don't know the(very clearly spelled out in terms of certifications) limits of their training and push them to the point of incredible stupidity and those are the ones that end up dead.
Even night dives and swimming through dark shipwrecks have this zen quality, you've got at least a buddy if not a whole dive party with you and that helps too, but I think most people find it scary until they actually do it. Everything changes when you're down there.

night diving, through a ship wreck? the idea of that slightly rattles my core lol, dark water is a strange fear of mine.. i mean over the years ive conditioned myself to it more and more, but i still get a little creeped out when swimming in the bodies of water i do at night (lakes, rivers, quarrys)
but i also find a sense of tranquility in the water at night, the cool temperature, moon lit sky, and that memorizing sound of the water. im being took just thought about it haha
i highly enjoy swimming though, it is always so relaxing and nice. I would love to go diving sort of in a tropic zone with breathing gear to go really deep with the wild life, clear waters..
im used to green murky water lol
swimming is soo nice,

Mixology, or in non-wanky layman's terms, mixing and inventing cocktails and drinking at a professional level. I can never afford to stock my bar and experiment as much as I'd like to.
Collecting cigars is much the same... I have a small humidor that can fit up to 40, but I dream of having one as big as a moderate sized piece of furniture.
Telescope acsessories are also as expensive as balls.
If I were multi bajillionaire, I'd take up commercial space travel. I think it's about 250k a trip, if I remember correctly. Also collecting art masterpieces to hang in my gallery which would be next to my wine cellar which would be right next to my scotch cellar which would be accessible through a secret door in the library tower of my fucking awesome castle.
Other stuff I can't be bothered to list atm
I guess this is actually a thread about things you'd do if you were sickeningly wealthy.

If storage is the problem, you should look into making a Wineador or Coolidor(not as pretty, but easier and more affordable). I have a Coolidor for boxes and a regular 100ct humidor for single sticks i got for 50 bucks on cigarbid, and i have more storage space than i think i'll ever need
cigarbid is also great for filling them up. tons of amazing deals to be had there, from stoagies to top shelf stuff

Fuck that! My biggest phobia ever is water, or at least all the terrifying things that live in it.
In a way, being underwater sounds serene and beautiful (I'm not talking about drowning either) but I'm too big of a puzzy to try it.

Yeah skydiving is the shit.
I thought I would be scared my first time; and I was a little nervous on the ground getting suited up, and also on the plane ride up, but it wasn't too bad. I even felt fine when they opened the door and people started jumping out.
Then it was my turn. I did tandem the first time, and me and my instructor were scooting toward the door, and still everything felt fine. Who knows what I was thinking. Then I was suddenly at the door, with my toes hanging over the edge, and I looked down. All of a sudden this was very, very real and I think I went into a state of shock. Then before I knew it I was shoved out the door!
At that point nothing mattered at all. I couldn't think about life, any of my problems, nothing but the insane amount of air rushing past me and the feeling of weightlessness and the ground rushing toward me. It was the most serene, relaxing feeling I have ever had in my life.

I share the thoughts. I love swimming and I love the ocean. But I have a horrible fear of drowning so I generally stick to being only chest deep at most.
If we're talking hobbies we wish we could take up but are too much of a pussy to do diving with sharks would be on the top of my list.

On that one though I think I'll just live vicariously through people who have balls.

Things that go bang/hunting for a ten lifetimes(check), free diving/spear fishing(check), several day surf/over night offshore fishing trips(check), going 100 mph down a deserted beach Baja style(check), gardening(check), building stuff(check). Those hobbies are a reality. However I don't have the funds for an airplane

Yeah, nothing says quality of life like watching my lady lounge on my boat as the sun sets.
Just relaxing on the boat with no sharks and a good buzz is very hard to beat. The scantily clad women is a great bonus!

Can't bring myself to buy a custom backgammon board though.. $1000-$2000 is quite a bit when my $50 board does the same thing. Think I'll just win one in a tournament one day. But I'll spend tens of thousands on fishing/hunting stuff..

none of my hobbies are terribly expensive on their own, the problem is i've got a lot of them. and it all starts to add up eventually, so i've had some months where i've had to make choices as to which I am going to actually focus on.

Horseback riding. I would love to ride a huge Friesian.

They are more or less endangered so it'd help preserve the breed. Can't afford that.
Kendo. I would absolutely love to get into that.

Its the most expensive martial art though. Maybe some day I will but spending several thousand bucks on outfit, armor, bokken and training is a bit over the rainbow at this point.
Safari. Going on safari every year, hibernating the Dutch winter away on the Serengeti cruising around, target shooting (only hunt when needed) BBQing and having an awesome time amidst the elephants and giraffes.

Love tae. Can't afford though.

Banomatic records are kind of like being in social debt, which I feel should expire after lets say a year to encourage people to clean up their act.
Permanent ban points are contrary to the spirit of forgiveness that is strong in our community.
