Unidentified Active Gymnopilus Sp. Part III: Return of the Unidentified Active Gymnopilus Sp.
    #23560307 - 08/20/16 03:49 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

I doubt many if any of you will remember this but years ago I posted a thread asking for an ID on a possible Active Gymnopilus sp.

Nobody was ever able to identify the mushrooms.

A year or two later, I found some of the same mushrooms growing from the same stump, and I posted another thread, but still got no definitive answers. Well, it's been a few years since I've seen them there, but I happened to be driving by the same old rotting stump today; and lo and behold, there they were.

I know they are active. They bruise a slight blue and I ate the last bunch and it gave me a mild psilo-buzz.

(I believe these are just weathered/rained on/more mature but the same species)

They are pretty small. 3-4 inches in height at the biggest, 3-4 inch cap diameter at the biggest

Update with pics of bruising

ideas?

Going off the shroomerys list of known Gyms in texas, I would say those are either G. luteoviridis or aeruginosus. I think its pretty hard to tell between the two without a microscope, but I am not sure on that

I just looked those up and it does look very similar to luteoviridis.

Thanks. Getting some prints sent out so hopefully we can get a positive ID. I'm thinking it's probably luteoviridis though.

Nice Gyms!

I love finding Gyms, even the inactive ones, they're great to photograph, and look really cool.
