Is my cactus etiolated?
    #23559730 - 08/20/16 11:34 AM (7 years, 6 months ago)

Hey all, I just got this cutting back in July and since then it has grown about 3 inches. I was wondering if it would fatten up eventually or should I try to get 2 or 3 clones from it?

When I got it I sprayed it with a spray bottle once or twice a week. That may have triggered growth before it had roots.

I'm new to the cacti world and wanted someone with a bit more experience to chip in.

On a side note if I wanted to clone this cacti I could leave the bottom and maybe try to root the middle pieces horizontally like a log? Of course cloning the top normally.

Thanks

Yes to all. Slight etiolation but overall looks quite healthy.

Your idea for 2 cuttings from it is fine, I'd probably let it grow a bit more to make sure theyre both a minimum of 6 inches before propagating. Let them heal nicely of course before planting. You can plant the center section vertically or horizontally, wont matter. Upside down even works, I've done it on accident lol, but its not the best.

If you're in the northern hemisphere and experience freezes in winter I would wait until spring before propagating it and let it continue to establish throughout the remainder of fall.

If the roots are only a couple months old I wouldn't propagate it yet.

They seem to do that in the rooting process. I have many like that. If the suns too hard, they do that. Not enought sun, they do that. I dont understand trichs sometime but i love them still.

Here look at these.
