Laminar flow hood checkup
    #23559769 - 08/20/16 11:48 AM (7 years, 5 months ago)

Hi all.

I managed to obtain an EBM R4E310-AE13-17 (spec sheet: http://www.alliedelec.com/m/d/70101f10dbd760253c50962c1067fc47.pdf)
1265 cfm@0
I was planning on getting a 24 x 48 inch hepa filter.
So, if my understanding is correct, it's:
2 ft x 4ft = 8 sqft
8 sqft x 100ft/min = 800 cfm for laminar flow (at the sum of the static pressure of the hepa filter + prefilter)
It's customary to add about 15% to that number so 920 cfm

According to the spec sheet, at that cfm I can afford up to ~0.5"(150pa) of static pressure.

I'm a bit confused about what the standard filter is for effective mycopathy with regard to filtration, as well as what kind of hepa filters are "designed" for laminar flow.
I am also wanting to know if an impeller can be used for laminar flow (I presume it would, because it matters only how much cfm@x the motor can produce?)

Thank you for your time

you broke the link by adding in the ")".

its ok if you are bit under or a bit over the perfect numbers. as long as you are close and, ideally, have a bit more cfm than prescribed, the flow should be laminar.

Ended up getting this filter from fungi perfecti.
It has 1" of static pressure and rated for 429 cfm.
so the math again:
24 in x 18 in = 3 sqft
3 sqft x 100 x 1.15 = 345cfm

Adding a pre-filter should put me right around my target cfm.

Im going to do some more research regarding proper building techniques. Are there any special considerations regarding my choice of blower? (specifically with it being an impeller type)

Your math is off. You will have to find a fan to match they are different. My fan loses 200 cfm from no load to 1.2" pressure. You need a fan that will deliver that cfm at 1.2" of pressure .      1" for the HEPA and approx.  .2" for prefilter.
