Some ID Help Please - Fresh this Morning (NW New Jersey)
    #23559307 - 08/20/16 07:40 AM (7 years, 5 months ago)

Habitat:

Growing beneath a walnut (95% certain) tree less than 100 yards from a freshwater pond in NW NJ. This is not city Jersey, my local is very similar to southern NY state and eastern PA. Old hardwood forests, watershed land and rural housing developments.  Summmer time, this morning is mid-80's by 9:30.  Very heavy dew and humidity last night, been having thunderstomrs almost every afternoon.

Grassy area of community pavilion, as mentioned growing in good shade beneath a walnut tree.  Ground floor was mix of sporadic grass clumps and rotting wood debris, walnuts nuts, etc.  Turkey, deer, bear frequent the grounds but no grazers.

Gills:
The gills are attached to the stem, but there are some shorter non attached growing on the outer edges 1/2 inward, see pics.  For the most part bright rust orange, tops, gills and stems (gills and stems being lighter shade). Had typical moist sheen on them when picked, much like many pics on here. Still learning my lingo so my apologies.

Stem:
25-40cms if i'm reading the ruler right, average stem length is at or longer than width of US penny.  stems are lighter orange in color and feel hollow when squeezed

Cap:

Referring to Stamet's guide, my beginners eye says I'd say convex, second choice hemispheric. Diameter, less than or equal to US penny.

Texture is soft and drying out nicely.  Picked about 1.5 hours ago. Pictured is one that was a little older, the others are now begginning to dry similarly with the heavy dark band at base of cap and lighter at the pinacle/nipple.

Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc.

Spore print is started, have a faint grey outline so far after about 45 minutes.  Can't see any bluing but it could be because they are so orange, definetly some darkening from original color between drying and perhaps bruising.

I'm a little excited as these look very much like some pics and vids I've seen of psil oviods that were bright orange.  Thoughts?

If you're looking for actives, blue bruising

i haven't been doing this long enough to find actives, but i know some non-actives blue like boletes.

The bi-color boletes though are the only species in my area I've picked up, fondeled, etc. that turned blue for me. Even overnight with some specimens printing, etc.

Should I be seeing this even in more non-actives? Or am I just not seeing it with my eyes correctly. Nothing's turning blue but me...
