Astral Projecting?!
    #23558698 - 08/19/16 11:03 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

So, I was doing some reading on this, and at first my main thoughts were that it could only be a bunch of hippie voodoo shit, but after learning the steps on how to do it, I decided to give it a go. And... voila! On my first try. I was laying in bed and going through the procedures in my head when I was hit hard with the famous "Vibrations" sensation. My body was buzzing and vibrating but unable to move, and although my eyes were closed, I could see. My perspective shifted as my view 'slid' off of my bed and onto the floor of the bedroom, like liquid. After that, I don't remember what happened. Anyone else ever done this? Any tips from more experienced projectors on how to do more with it? I'm going to continue trying it out, it's a fun and unique experience.

I don't think I've ever done it deliberately, it's happened to me a couple times though. First time it just happened and idk how but it scared the hell outta me because it started out with sleep paralysis, and I didn't know what it was at the time. Second time, I was pretty freaked out for a second too but then remembered sleep paralysis fades in time and I just let it do its thing, both times I saw some pretty crazy visions though. I saw myself from the point of view of being on my ceiling looking down at myself and then a whole bunch of other crazy shit happened that I can't quite remember. Maybe I should give it a go on my own terms this time :strokebeard:

Yeah, ive been doing ut since i was a little kid. Some of my oldest memories are projecting, and i still dont really know what the e,perience is.

Heres my bag-o-collected subjective "facts" from 20ish years of experience, for anyone interested. None of this may be true for you though.

1. You need to catch yourself right on the edge of sleep. Its literally a few seconds away from unconsciousness. Some people get a buzz, or hum. I get a very specific but indescribable sensation in my head. At that moment, with your eyes closed simply visualize youself leaving the body, and it will happen. I imagine climbing a rope, as thats been the easiest for me.anything works though.

2. Dont get excited. The more excited you get, the more unstable the experience gets. If it gets to unstable, it ends.

3. If things get blury or foggy... or you feel disoriented, or like youre losing control, look at your hands until everyrhing stabilizes.

4. No fucking. This goes with dont get excited. The experience will juat end.

5. IME, the further you get feom your home, the weirder things get.

6. The more you do things that would be impossible in waking life, the more unstable things get. You can do it, you just have to pase yourself, and maintain a degree of stability.

7. Figure out what you want to do now, before projecting, and reiterate it to yourself daily. Your priorities arent the same "out of body"

8. Take a look at your slep8ng body. I dont know what youll see, but it will be interesting.

9. Find something to do to check to see if your projecting. I oftwn get hit with a surge of paranoia when the possibility hits me that i may have just done something like breaking into my neighbors apartment. My go to is to push my hamd or face through a door or wall.

10. Push on any door, and it qill open. No need for locks or knobs.

11. Dont be afraid. Fear feeds upon fear, and the experiance can get horrifying quickly if you let it. People love to gear monger,  but as far as my experience goes, i dont think anything bad can happen. It's probably all just a dream.

12. Sleeping on my side helps.if im on my back, i tend to begin to snore slightly right when im at the cusp of getting that feeling in my head, and the sound Wales me up. I also get a hard on if I'm on my back,  and it's distracting.  It doesn't seem to be an issue on my side.

13. If you get sleep paralysis, dont worry about it. Just close your eyes, and visualize your arma pulling you up a rope. Youll either pop out, or start dreaming.

14. Fly into soace and see what happens. Just keep going.

15. Keep a notebook, and wright down everything. Youll be suprised what details end up being interesting. My first experience projecting in my current apartments was boring. I popped out, oppened my blue front door, went into a neighbors apartment and walked around a bit examining the layout, then i walked out of the building and it ended ahortly afterwards. A few days later when thinking about it, i realized my front door is white, not blue. On a whim, i scratched the paint, and what do you know, a coat of blue paint underneith. Probably a coincidence, but still kinda cool.

16. Most important, be consistent and systematic. Practice in the same way every night.

17. Nicotine helps.  Gum, a patch, or snus idk why. Listening to a podcast in the background seems too as well.  Not music though.

I'm on my phone.  Sorry for typos. Im not proofreading.

sounds very similar to lucid dreaming. Sorry but how is this achieved?

is it as simple as "1. You need to catch yourself right on the edge of sleep. Its literally a few seconds away from unconsciousness. Some people get a buzz, or hum. I get a very specific but indescribable sensation in my head. At that moment, with your eyes closed simply visualize youself leaving the body, and it will happen. I've tried to catch this "edge of sleep" a few times before in an effort to lucid dream. Always eluded me, I fall asleep real quick.

Probably all that is needed is more effort on my part.

Yeah, consistwncy is key. Nicotine is helpful too for some reason. Try chewing nicotine gum. Its also helpful if youre really tired, so that you fall asleep quickly. You can either skip sleeping at night, and try mod the next day, or set an alarm to go off in the middle of the night, then get up, walk aroung the house for a few minutes and then lay back down.

None of that is required, but it can help.

Always tried but never could, deep in meditation I can kind of lose track of where my body is and start to feel like I'm going somewhere else but I always open my eyes because it's uncomfortable

I like the 'slid' description. It's how I experienced too in the only time I've ever achieve it, unintentionally about 10 years ago. The only difference is, I didn't fall to the floor. I slid out of myself to the left and observed at the same height of the bed. I then went back over the bed sitting up, whilst my physical body was lying down.

I was in a panic to return to physical after a few seconds. The window cleaner was actually knocking at my front door and my physical body lay paralysed. :smirk:

Specifically which books have you read on the topic?

It is strange, it probably isn't particularly good for your mental well-being.

There are types that are good for you, like when you get onto other levels of reality, that are beautiful, harrowing, and you feel like some child on Halloween.

The strange, warped, "real time zone" ones that are really uncomfortable, can't be a good idea to be involved with.

Remember you're dealing with the afterlife and the mystery of the manifest world, directly, more directly than perhaps most ever have.

Try to enjoy waking life a lot more, enhance your consciousness. Then you will find less of a need for this stuff, which would be good.

Unless you're crazy as an explorer in the Age of Discovery, roaming through the wilds with natives and wild animals preying on you, hardly any food or water, then this stuff ain't for you.

You can. Its not meditation, and theres no magic to it. Just stay conscious as you fall asleep. Nothing more to it.

Try this, preform a body scan while laying on your side trying to fall asleep. Once you are extremely relaxed,  and you can watch the breath without having any active control over it, shift you attention to the images playing out in your mind. Just actively watch them. Keeping your awareness in the present moment is key. If you daydream, you'll go to sleep. If you can stay present, dreams will begin to play out in front of you, with increasing realism and depth. You can either maintain this, and enter a lucid dream, or visualize yourself moving out of your body, and have an OBE. Its probably the same thing.

Thanks a bunch for that huge list of tips, I think that will be really helpful. Since the first night I haven't been able to do it again, I keep finding myself right on the edge, then realizing what I'm doing and getting distracted by it, thus getting pulled out.

That's exactly the problem I'm having! I've gotten to the "vibration" stage a couple of times and then get excited "I'm finally doing it!" and then it fades away.

One of the closest times was on a come down from a 5g trip. I was laying down, felt the vibrations, tried to imagine a rope and got as far as feeling like I was floating/weightless.

I always have a hard time visualizing the rope and what it feels like; maybe I should take one of my dog's chew toys (a rope) to bed and just hold it in my hand?

The visualizimg part doesnt really matter. If youre not in that moment right before sleep, all the visualizing in the world isnt going to change anything. If you catch yourself in the right moment though, all it takes is vaguely thinkijg about ut. No intensely detailed visualization needed.
