Exactly I think my gas torch was £3 used for soldering copper pipe seals and any camping cooker gas tank fits it I can get a box of 4 for £10 and will last probably years
Edit: the torch was £6.98

No, no, no one can argue the virtues of a blow torch vs an alcohol lamp. But, shitty, dinky, garbage? That's harsh, man

Not everyone has the extra $20-50 bucks to buy a torch and fuel. Most people have a baby food jar, garlic jar, jelly dish, extra jar, etc and some alcohol (ISO is more common, but campers especially may have denatured already) or similar fuel and cotton or similar fabric laying around. In those cases, an alcohol lamp is ideal. Also, an alcohol lamp should not leave soot. That's one benefit of denatured alcohol.

All that stuff added up costs more than a cheap torch head and a bottle of lighter gas Even a jigged lighter can provide a decent blue flame before it spatters

Did you not read what I wrote? Why would you need to buy those things, if you already have them?

So you stole them found them got them donated? No bought them as I said added together that lot would cost more.... Did you not read my post? Here a bottle of iso alone costs £17+ wayyy more than my torch set up will cost for a few years once I use up all my gas Understand I'm not attacking you or saying you are wrong I'm saying its not the best way which in this hobby (for this purpose is what I'll call it) isn't good enough

No, in this case the materials needed were already on-hand from other projects.
The wick came from the spares for tiki torches, denatured goes in the alcohol stove(s) or other oil lamps, the jar was sitting on a shelf. Look no one is arguing against using a torch. What doesn't make sense though is for a new cultivator to spend one more dollar than is truly necessary, if tools already available can do the job. Budgeting is hard enough without taking on additional expenses from an ancillary hobby.

Its necessary because its necessary for the hobby IMO if you can't afford a hobby as it reduces the standard of living for you or god forbid your children then fuck wake up you shouldn't be doing this hobby, scoring a high should be the last thing on your mind if you cant afford a few dollars/pounds On another subject have you had a grow that hasn't gone to shit yet apart from one that started as actual shit? Only give advice with proven results or stfu

It is, hence being an ancillary secondary hobby. With wild fruit in abundance growing them is not a high priority. It's a mix of science and fun.

Dunno why ancillary was used here and earlier, the antithesis was intended.
Haha caught before the edit lol

I have about five different things going on around me, lol. Making it hard to decide if I'm using the word right, but you get my point. No harsh vibes intended, man.

That's what's been going on and will likely continue. Thanks for the advice.

No worries mate I've been there from your first post trying to help with the limited knowledge (but growing) I have, I've learned doing things on the cheap eventually leads you to having to buy the thing you've been told you need in the begining but only after wasting money and resources to come to that conclusion just trying to help cut out those money wasting steps I guarantee you'll be saying this shit soon once you've ruined your fair share of plates and cakes

That's it in a nutshell. With emphasis on if things don't turn out well. In all likelihood, with increased interest the MAPP torch will be broken out, but it seems a bit overkill at the moment. Though, it's not doing any good all boxed up god only knows where, so....

Use propane not mapp.
Mapp makes your scalpels very dull quicker and also makes them sort of corode and pit as it get the blade so hot it reacts with oxygen in the air.

Nice tip, thanks. Haven't used propane with it before, but those camp tanks should work fine right?
