Other peoples problems can be way heavier than yours remember we all have a cross to carry. Man your so young enjoy it now for real you arent supposed to understand everything now... Take your trial and tribulations.. Your maturity in life is like a flower blooming you wont understand why and how until you reach the point where it opens enough to understand how and why only then you will say i get it and it was so simple....i would also describe it like the temperture range for freezing 32 and below your frozen...age of 33 you get some things.....i dont know why you just cant have everything at once... Your body will go and you wont rely on physical as much but your mental aspect will grow and become the most powerful aspect of one self... It just unfolds...enjoy being young be smart

everything makes sense until I hear you say you think you are avoiding the issue.
I think you are repetitively inserting yourself in the issue and managing to not get eaten by a pack of wolves.

keep up the good attitude. be as different as you must be. enjoy. relax and do good work.

It sounds like you are a thoughtful, intelligent person who just happens to be somewhat introverted....which is fine. I've felt similar things at different points of my life as I grew up.

I started having a lot of "what does it all mean?" thoughts when I was in my early teens, which led on to an interest in psychedelics and also in philosophy.

I think it might be worth actually reading some proper philosophy (just as a spare-time interest counterbalancing all the chemistry stuff). Philosophy of mind is very interesting (especially looking at it from a psychedelic angle) and it sounds like you are interested in the big metaphysical questions of life...

For a good intro try Nigel Warburton's "Philosophy: The Basics". There are some good books looking at consciousness (such as the one by Chris Frith mentioned here) and some readable general philosophy books in this post.

When you actually read and work through some of these arguments in your mind you will have less free-wheeling existential angst, more focused questions, and a more analytical way to look at them.

Quote:

I can’t really have conversations with people. I don’t want to talk about sports, or that new movie that came out. I can’t for a second even think about things like that. I try to, i really try to think about things like that so i can distract myself and numb myself.

As you get older and start work e.t.c you gradually get used to talking to people of different ages, background, education and so on. It's a skill in itself and it makes everyday interactions less awkward. A lot of conversations are going to be fairly trivial, the important thing is their social function of allowing you to work as a team, gradually get to know people and so on. It's a different thing to talk seriously about what really interests you. Just because people are talking about mindless shit in some contexts doesn't mean that's all they think about.

And surely there must be some movies you like? There are plenty of films that explore philosophical issues and life in general in some way. What about music? Is there any way to get involved in a local psychedelic scene or do you prefer to keep that as a solo hobby? You must have some common ground with other people. Even if you don't have a lot in common with the people around you, remember they are individuals and don't dismiss them as unworthy of your attention. A lot of people put up a facade which makes them seem trivial on the surface, but underneath they may be more similar to you than you think...

My only purpose in life is to reproduce

Not really. From a scientific viewpoint there is no purpose, no design. You exist *because* you reproduce, but that doesn't mean reproduction is a reason to exist. The good news is that this means you are FREE to enjoy life as best you can.

Quote:

I WISH i was able to just get a job and have a family and have a house with a white picket fence. Be an average person.

You'll probably find that your inner restlessness calms down as you get older. It's normal to question everything in your life (and sometimes the universe in general) when you are young.

Quote:

Life itself is a complete joke.

Yes.... don't forget to laugh! It's important not to take yourself or life in general too seriously. Reading some of the basic ideas of buddhism (just an introductory book of some sort) might also put life into context. You don't have to buy into the whole philosophy (re-incarnation e.t.c) to see the wisdom and subtlety of some of the ideas.

As for a hobby, social things where you interact with people would be an ideal, but for something quiet and relaxing how about photography? Just the process of taking a new interest in the mundane aspects of your everyday surroundings can help you see the world in a different way and find beauty in it.

I think part of the way to be happy is to see the world as some kind of massive, fascinating artwork of unbelievable complexity. To see the beauty in everything. It's the same with people; everyone has potentially fascinating depths; even when you don't like people it can be interesting to work out what makes them tick...

If none of that works just try distracting yourself with pornography

Anyone who thinks you can't think your way out of depression has obviously never done mushrooms. The whole mushroom experience is based around that very fact.

Nope it's all thinking my friend

And let's be honest here. The majority of people who are "depressed" are not depressed because they lost their house or job.
I wouldn't even consider that depression I would consider that being in a shitty place in your life.

I'm talking about the people who "need" therapy for depression. A therapists is not going to be able to help someone who lost something huge. In that case the only thing that's gonna help your depression is changing your life.
