Gonna watch it again. Dont you think this is kind of the zombie apocalypse theme before anyone else thought about it? )(Except maybe Richard Matheson's ' The Omega Man'

George A. Romero made his first "zombie apocalypse theme" movie in 1968. It kicked off the modern zombie genre, which flourished through the 1970s and 80s, before King wrote 'The Stand', and long before the miniseries was made.
For anyone interested in 'The Stand', though, there's allegedly a remake of the TV-event film in the works. Rumor has it that Matthew McConaughey will be playing Randall Flagg.

WShat movie was that? 'I am legend' was Richard Mathesons book about, oh, circa 1953, i think Charly H was in the original Omega man about 71, Richard Matheson was responsible for a bunch of good old sci-fi, like 'The Incredible Shrinking Man' among others, and a lot of the Twilight Zone stories.
And Stephen King ripped off a lot of stories in his tenure, a lot of them by Theodore Sturgeon.

To me, the scariest part of the story is how humanity's curiosity, greed, and lust for power cause this completely catastrophic event, one for which we as a race are ultimately responsible. The sad part is that humanity harms itself.
But, overall, that's an old story, right?
I really enjoyed the rich characters when I read the book. The middle dragged the fuck on, though. I love the way he writes; it has a wit, a humor, and a coolness that captivate me.
I've never watched the miniseries. Is it worth checking out?

It dragged on a bit like the book, but it was good. Now the Tommyknockers, that was a fucking good miniseries.

'Night of the Living Dead', which lead into 'Dawn of the Dead' and 'Day of the Dead'. There were a bunch of knockoffs.

was that the one about the dead people coming out of the swamps?
And remember that movie about the giant seed pods? It was...the Day of the Triffids.
Shit, they ain't cuttin' any cool sci-fi like that anymore. Sadly. Even though prometheus was pretty rad.

I never saw the miniseries but the book is one of the best pieces of literature I have ever read
I don't know if I want to watch them though, I'd hate to be let down

If you don't want to be let down, I recommend avoiding the miniseries. It's from the early 90s & is terribly dated. If you love the book, there's no comparison.
Starfire: a lot of people hated Prometheus, but I liked that one. Sequel for that is in the works, too.

Randall Flagg was the Imp of Satan
He could make a man's blood run cold just by smiling in his direction, the wolves and the weasels were on his side

The fucked up thing about it is that there probably is a little glass vial labelled "Captain Trips" out in some top-secret lab in the middle of the desert and King's prophecy just hasn't happened yet

Prometheus was a major let-down
