Datura from Seed
    #23554194 - 08/18/16 05:44 PM (7 years, 5 months ago)

Any advice? I've soaked them in lukewarm water for 25 hours and plan to sow them in perlite/peat/verm and keep in high humidity in a windowsill.
And as a side note, I've read that the adult plants are smelly. How bad is it? I was planning on keeping a few around the house,in places where the cat can't eat them, of course.

Datura seeds can take quite some time to germinate.
Just keep them warm, and moist, ,also use a humidity dome.

They smell wonderful, the blooms, however the plant itself has a most disagreeably nauseating odor.
You gotta injure or rub the plant though for it to be smelled though.

I wouldn't keep them in a hose with cats,or dogs though,or small children, for that matter.

Thanks for the info. I was going to put them on some tall bookcases, don't havve to worry about harming my cat.

The flowers of Datura smell very sweet, which is great, never noticed a bad smell from the plant though, but mine are outdoors.

Also, I wouldn't keep Datura around any pets or small children, just seems like a recipe for disaster.

My seeds took 3 weeks to germinate, I planted them directly into the soil, and they were fine.

No chance, cats know how to get there.
You want the plant to be in the sun anyway. A high shelf right below the ceiling is propably the worst place to put such a creature.
And yes, when growing indoor Datura stinks. But it's nothing too bad, it smells spicy in a way. I like the smell.
